5 Things to Give Up to Be Happy

5 Things to Give Up to Be Happy

This caught my eye while I was surfing around. I know a lot of people that have some of these mental blocks (myself included), but it all makes sense.

Should've put this article on FaceBook!

IDK where I am in this spiritual river journey we all call "Life," but it is an interesting point wherever this is... Why, you should ask, but probably are not? Well you see, I can see BOTH sides of this "article." "Crickets Dave, so what?" you might be saying. Here's my point...

Most of us, regardless of political affiliation, either need to read and apply this article like a mission statement, or it's so incredibly BASIC that the fact someone actually spent 6 minutes to type it and get paid is hilarious at best. Please don't be offended, but ask yourself, even if it's just one time... "Do I really know what side I'm on? Is this one to grow on? Or, is it another 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back?" If you're not sarcastic, and let the answer drift to you instead of belting it out from memory, you might shock and amaze yourself. Seriously.

Do we ever really stop doing the things on that list? Not if you're alive and honest. But if you dig deep inside and look around, maybe someone whose been doing that all this time will wake up and change. Maybe. It IS the Huffington Post after all, LOL. I keed I keed! Back to reality... Laughing out loud

Duke Leto: "I'll miss the sea, but a person needs new experiences. They jar something deep inside, allowing him to grow. Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken." - "Dune."

Mark

I actually think that it is a good article.

Yes, Dave it IS very basic, but so often those are just the things that we need to be reminded of. Even though we may not ever really stop doing the things on the list, it never hurts to try to become more conscious of them and to put forth the effort to improve ourselves.

Chris and Dave, you guys may laugh and poke fun but a lot of people, myself included, work very hard at self development and making themselves into better people.

Thanks for sharing this article, Mark.

Interesting

If every one gave up being a victim, stopped blaming and lost the feeling of entitlement the Huffinton Post would lose all their subscribers and readers!

Should have had a couple more than 5.

6. Give up relying on others to provide your motivation. This can really distract you from taking action.

7. Give up staying away from church. Trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Forget the secular psychobabble. Donate your time and money to your local church. JOY WILL FOLLOW!!

Truth be told

I could care less that this was published in the Huffington Post. I guess some people can't see the forest for the trees. It's interesting to see who really got the point the article was trying to make.

If Dean would've mentioned these 5 points, how different would some of the comments be?

Seriously people...

Its a very good article.

Habits to give up - habit of blaming, need to impress, being a victim, feeling entitled, and give up pretending. We all have issues and work to do on ourselves and I think everyone on the face of this earth has experienced all 5 of those habits at one time or another and if it can't be admitted to then who are we kidding. I don't see where it has anything to do with extreme left liberal or far right conservative. I always strive to fall somewhere in the middle because I feel it is important to keep an open mind about things and I might miss something. God knows I am not perfect but made perfect in HIS image and my sins are forgiven. My mistakes too. I am real happy about that. Knowing that my sins and mistakes are already forgiven helps me to pick up the pieces and move on as needed. If there wasn't a Huffington Post we would not be having this conversation. Amazing! We all have stuff to learn.

I agree with Karen

I just didn't read this the way those that are knocking liberals were. Mark well said, if Dean would have posted if would have been a different story. Karen, I was kind of dumb struck and just left the post alone, but I am glad you made the point that the article was good and had validity although it was simplistic.

i'm not a huff post buff, in fact this is the first time i've ever been there.
i read it and yes it's simple. does that mean it's a bad read? i think we over complicate and over compensate. keep it simple. i do agree with michaels additions though.

Mark, thanks for sharing.

Mark, thanks for sharing. It is the message that matters. I think we all need to be reminded at times to keep it simple. Do what makes you happy and do what keeps you feeling fulfilled.

Chris I see you are explaining your

perspective, but I don't think that liberals have a monopoly on complaining.
@ Karen. I thought it was a joke too about the like button; I must still be missing something. Got to go back and look.

FYIs

OK, just a few comments...

If I came across as offended, please realize I wasn't. I'm actually politically neutral so it didn't bother me.
What did concern me is that some seem to have missed the point that the article was trying to make, simplistic or not. There are a few people, just by reading their replies, that don't "get" it. I'm not saying this to make fun of anybody or to imply I'm better than anybody. I urge you to go back and read each single step, line by line. Re-read it if you have to.
As you read each step, go back and remember in your past when you have failed to live up to the particular step. Now pause for a moment and be brutally honest with yourself, has anything changed between then and now? Are you monitoring your thoughts? Catching the negativity, blame games, victimizations, unaccountability and other way-ward thoughts?
This is not something that changes overnight. It take perseverance and discipline to master. Not to mention you WILL be constantly challenged.
Sometimes it's the most simple of things that we overlook that could be the most profound for us.

RE: Like button
I know Karen & I have a twisted sense of humor which would explain why some wouldn't get the joke.
Part of the joke is that you had to click on the "Here" in the previous posts as if it were a "Like" button to see the results. Sticking out tongue

To all of those that have thanked me, you are so graciously welcomed!

Mike M, I agree with you that the list is incomplete. But it IS a good starting point for anyone not doing most of those steps in the first place.

And Lastly, comment on Deans Weekly Wisdom #184 - Logical Decisions so we can all get a copy of the ebook "Totally Fulfilled" if you haven't already!
