My main motivating factor is that my wife and I have two children we are supporting in the Philippines that we wish to formally adopt. Joy Marjorie Diane Abella Brooks is 17 and in her second year of medical school, and Jason Abella Brooks is in 5th grade, just turned 14 and just this month began to break through on learning English and Tagalog (Visayan is the home language - a Filipino kid neds three languages to function). We need to take two trips to the Philippines in order to formally adopt them, six months apart: initial court hearing and final adoption. The final needs to take place before Joy reaches her 18th birthday in March. Each trip will cost about $5,000. Along the way we'd also like to get in the application for my wife's US citizenship before her green card expires.
