OfflineBeing a life-long, die-hard Chicago Cubs fan I am use to having great expectations as the year begins and then over the course of the year, things may not turn out as planned. I still remain positive but as a true Cubs fan I often am heard saying “wait ‘til next year!” When it comes to our goals and New Year resolutions it is a clean slate, a fresh start, and a new beginning each and every year!
January 1st is our opportunity to begin again. The key to it all, is do not dwell on the past, just learn from the past! There will even be some people that want to remind you of the past, that remind you of all the obstacles, that remind you the avalanche of real estate investing is something you should run away from not towards. But you know better. You know now is the time to take action. Now is the time to run as fast as you can to get in the game and learn as much as you can about real estate.
This New Year is a time to try not to make the same mistakes you may have made in the past because the past is the past! This year you will do things better, do things that make a difference and do things that get you closer to where you might want to be! By better, I mean better time management, better decisions of how you spend your time and a dedication of time to change your future. Should you spend an hour a day or 10 hours a week? The choice is up to you! However, I believe if you spend at least 1 hour per day on real estate investing you will see your tremendous growth of knowledge after 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.
Just make the commitment and stick to it. If you do not like where you are then make the plan to get to where you want to be! If you do one thing each day that gives you a better shot at that next deal, than congratulations you are succeeding with your goals! Do not feel pressured to do it faster or gauge your progress by the success of others. What works for you may not work for others. So follow the trail of knowledge that is presented to you in Dean’s books, programs and on the DG website; but, blaze your own “fresh trail” for your own niche!
You can create your own niche and succeed no matter what your obstacles may be.
I often get inspired by Greg Murphy’s story. I had the pleasure of meeting Greg Murphy on several occasions. Greg is truly a success and his story is that of the American Dream. Through Greg's hard work and determination, he has accomplished tremendous things with no money and bad credit. Greg has perfected sandwich lease options and has created his own niche. You can do it too!
As Dean often has told us, we need to know our “WHY” and nothing else will matter. Find that why and create that passion and that burning desire and nothing or no one will ever hold you back from getting to where you want to be! You can do it and the other DG Members want to be inspired by your progress and real estate deals in 2010. After all, 2010 is “the Year of the DG Student Investor”! Believe and Achieve! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

thanks...You are so right...I got off track for a couple months, where I started slipping back...and lately, I have been getting back on track...set up a meeting, have some offers I NEED to put in, and keep on moving forward...I wasted those 2 months, but ya know what, I can't change that...But I can change what I do today, tomorrow and every other day to come...

Your right 2010 is a new page on our life book and we all should build a strong castle showing the world that anyone can do it.I am doing something different for the new year I change lots of bills and my situation to be able in a month to quit my second job to be able to put more time towards R.E. As a new investor, it's really easy to get overwhelmed and "lost" trying to learn as much as possible and deal with setting up a business. All of us on the DG website depend on you and the other experienced investors to give us the encouragement and knowledge to keep us motivated and give us the little "push" we need. I am truly thankful for all your posts and look forward to many more in 2010.

I really appreciate the motivation heading into the new year. I bought the first of Dean's books over a year ago, and have not made a deal yet. Actually, I still feel far from making that first deal, but I still have the desire to do REI. Thanks for the shot in the arm to make 2010 a better year than 2009 has been. I always appreciate reading your posts Joe. Time to kick myself in the butt so I can start posting deals for you to read about.
