It sounded like he was looking out for his mom's well being. Until you read the last sentence: The house is worth about $330K. I'm not a religious person, and I haven't memorized the Bible or anything, but... I'm pretty sure if you kick your mom out of her own house so you can make a buck, you're going straight to Hell. No application fee, no waiting in line, no second chances, straight to the brimstone factory.

In a similarly evil consequence, Mom's lawyers are going to sink their own teeth into the equity to pay for their "services." Still, I can't wait to see the livid tirade the judge will go on when he gets this case thrown on his bench.

It is is one of the top stories on cbsnews.com and I saw it earlier today. It was given to her on her birthday by 71 y.o. son. How sick is that. Ungrateful does not even cover it. I pray for the dear woman and hope the judge denies the son. Someone needs to look out for that woman. Those of us who are blessed with length of years do not deserve that kind of treatment from anyone let alone a family member.

This is WHY we have probate courts, to protect from "the cradle to the grave" as the legal profession calls it. They keep children, the elderly, the homeless and incompetent, the most helpless of our society, protected from anyone and everyone who would try to manipulate them outside the scope of criminal law. Courts HATE IT when relatives sue each other, but when you have a case, you have to fight. The judge ruled her competent to fight this, but appointed her counsel anyways (already a stretch of the bench's power). He will recommend arbitration or mediation, I'm sure, but no matter what happens, the mom is going to win, you can pretty much bet on it. Plus, if she needs better care, the court will order it. Bad news is, live-in health care IS NOT cheap, especially without insurance. $28/hr X 40 hrs/wk... X 4 wks/month, X ? months or even years can drain that $330K pretty quickly.
