I know it's hard for poor people to grasp that wealthy or successful people have problems. the truth is wealthy people usually have bigger problems, but they're just problems like everyone elses. get over them and get on with life. the next problem is just around the corner and we can deal with them too. for me now, it seems like my problems are just another fight to be won. I will not give up and I'm still gonna have problems. bring them on, I can take them out too.

Despite having a great real estate year, it had a lot to be desired for me, Jill & our son Joe.
And while spending thousands & thousands on medical bills, having the Tools to preform real estate investing gives you the peace of mind that
no matter what life dishes out, you can handle it & move onto the next level!

Jill & I closed on Project # 76 on Friday PM, & started Saturday AM on the demo, tearing out the kitchen cabinets/counters; both bathroom toilets,
vanities & light fixtures. Did some plumbing & electrical repairs today & made our material list
for tomorrow! And still are looking for Buy, Fix & Flip # 77 during our travels.

Thanks Dean for instilling the drive to always do better!

Dean Thank you so much for helping me realize that everyone currently has,has had or will have obstacles in our life. Either we use it as wind behind our sail or an anchor to drag us down. Awesome Advice.

Well Done!

Sounds like you are making a good start. I haven't done a thing yet to set me on the road, so well done! It is tough to just take those first steps and I believe that we can do it, so just keep going and let me know how you are doing. I have a few things planned, so I will be making some calls shortly. As for the bandit signs, they sound brilliant!

Educating our children

Hi Dean,

When my husband was young his poor eyesight went unnoticed until he was five years old, so he missed out on a lot and maybe that was the reason for his poor start in primary school. His secondary school was not great either, but he rose to the top and eventually got a place in a prestigious art school in London, England and later became a lecturer. Next year we are putting on a posthumous exhibition of his paintings in our local art gallery.

My own sons went to our local school, which was good at first but with the change in headteacher, it went downhill. There were drugs and petty crime etc. Eventually my sons went to university and both got their degrees. They are not prosperous by any means but they have the education and there is still time. I think that there are pros and cons to every decision and nothing is ever going to be perfect. I would say, though, to do the best that you can is the best thing. Find a good school for your children. One of the ways in which to find out what happens in school is to volunteer for an hour per week and you can see for yourself what goes on there. Best of luck.

Giving back

Jimi K.'s picture

They'll grow in stages and you'll need to adapt to that. Its always the things no one tells you about that are more important. Honor the promises you make to them, if you cant, tell them before hand and don't make it a habit. Spend quality time with them, they need YOU. Things and the setting are most times irrelevant. Reversing bad habits is much harder than making an extra effort. Leading by example is the most difficult and most critically important task a true parent needs to do. Don't command; explain your decision making process so they understand and learn to evaluate situations, access circumstances and make decisions on their own. Maintain discipline and have authority in your household. Teach them to be respectful to others and to stand up for the weak. They don't need gifts that take their attention away from YOU when you return from a long trip. Look for opportunities to introduce reality into their lives so its not so traumatic when their faced with a difficult situation. As they get older talk to them like people. If you do this, you will be prepared for whatever school you decide is right. School is were the real challenge begins. I think its safe to say that people in general are products of their environment, its their way of thinking that makes them different. Rest assure if you don't raise your children society will be happy to do it for you. No matter were they go to school they will be surrounded by influence, good, bad and indifferent. Everything is based on the success of the relationship you build at home. Most people want babies, no one wants to take the time to raise kids. Raising good kids can change the world.

Dean I think it is brave

TMO28's picture

Dean

I think it is brave that you share your day to day obstacles with the world. Yes we all have problems and thats a good thing or life would be all so boring! Where to educate your children is a big decision because you care about their education and you do have choices. Everyone has the same choice to provide their children with a variety of educational choices with or without money. (most private school have scholarship) This is not a rich person's problem, it is a parental problem.
It is yours now because you care so much about the now and the future of not only your children but everyone. I am so grateful for that!

There is nothing wrong with private education or public for that matter.
What matters is the school mirrors the values of your family and meets the the learning style of the child. There is no way that your children will grow up feeling entitled based on the fact they have you. Their daily lives are filled with understanding the diversity of our culture. Part of that is your background and ability to understand all economic backgrounds. Look at Christmas and thats just a snapshot of your life with your kids.

I advocate for experiential education because it is integrated, teaches to the whole child and applies academics and character education to authentic experiences. It is the way you live/teach. Look up Kurt Hahn, Outward Bound and Expeditionary Learning. The principles are the same as your values.
I tend to get self righteous about this, but I have the background, both personal and professional so I figure I can. I often imagine what your life would have been if you had the teachers/education that met your needs and didn't call you stupid... but each step led to the next and without those hard knocks we would not be reaping the benefits now. Thank you for this!

hahaha Dean. thinking out loud like the video helps

zzrollthembonezz's picture

it's not going to matter where kids go to school. there going to be who they are. family affair has a great episode of Bill's kids playing with the poor kids. check it out. I'd say why have privet schools if no one goes to them. if you can afford privet schools go to them. does a business owner ever drive a beater car of course not why when they can have the new car? it's silly. I liked the video your still on a roll Dean

Dean...You Are A Blessing!

Sending your children to good schools is a GOOD thing because "knowledge is from the cradle to the grave" or "from the womb to the tomb". We are all human beings struggling and most want to know what are we here for? What you have to instill in the children is Love of G'D (creator) and love of humanity. Giving, and You Dean are a GREAT example of that! Most people don't understand that we don't own our children, however we are responsible for educating them about life and there nurturing while they are young. Once you teach them how G'd wants humanity to live and that we are All brothers, and sisters, and how G'd rewards Good Deeds, and punishes evil or bad deeds, then you have done your job. It has nothing to do with being wealthy or not. Teach them about right and wrong, service to humanity, and to reverence G'd (creator)who created everything. You are a blessing and you have been blessed with all that you have! Keep on doing what you are doing. And teach the children! G'd Bless you...G'd Bless us all!

Me too.

Mighty1 Real Estate's picture

I also worry about my kids feeling entitled to everything because I too provide everything from the latest electronic gadgets to plenty of food and other things. I am truly blessed and that is also what I want to instill in my children. Always be grateful to God for all the things you have and even the things you don't but always be humble and grateful so you don't come across as some idiot rich person, instead try to help others in any way you can and be cautious about not getting suckered by users.
Thanks for another great WW.
God's blessings to you Dean.

Choc Full

Hello Dean

Every message you deliver is so choc full of wonderful things. Thank you very much for your continued effort. Lord knows that I need your encouragement EVERY DAY. From what I have seen, I truly doubt that your children will grow up to be to entitled. I think you will keep them firmly on the ground because you are sooo very grounded. Children learn more from what we do and from what we say and you seem to be teaching them all the time. Whatever school they go to, you and your lovely wife will always be their true teachers. Good luck with your choice.

Peace & Blessings.

The Biggest Misconception of Successful People

Good Morning Dean,

Another great weekly wisdom.....you always make us stop for a moment.....to ponder and get us back on track......Thank you.....Smiling

Everyone will encounter the same issues, at some point in our lives.....it's how we deal with things.....that separates us.

I read somewhere that both the rich man and the poor man will go into the same market....and both will need & buy the same thing.....Milk and Bread.....So basic.......

Have a Great Week Dean........XO

Regards,
Sharon

The Speed of Trust

I have recently re-read a great book by Covey "The Speed of Trust" I have found that as I have built the right team (as you taught) that I can trust, and that trust me, we move so much faster and with very little worry about the "Drama" types of situations. Dean I have learned to trust you in the things that you have taught and continue to trust you. I have got a bank loan, through your instructions, I have closed over 50 deals following your instruction and now that I joined IE last month for a nominal fee, I closed a wholesale deal of 20k. The reason is that you don't lie (like your subject line says) and you are moving faster than others because we believe and trust in you.
Thank you!

FIGHT?

CandC's picture

Fighting comes natural to me I try not to fight, so if I'm going to fight, fight with a faster path. OK got it. That's for sure, your $25K = my $25. Or don't let the person your married to tell you what to look for. Know matter where you send your kids to school you will be their greatest teacher, weather good or bad. You could say my kids went to the toughest school during the toughest times, I tell them and their friends, that are still alive, that they are survivors. Did I expect a lot from them, yes. Do I still, yes. As parents we were failures and I taught them they do not have to make the same mistakes, they can learn from others what not to do. Just like you did with your parents. When they send me a song on Mothers Day (Mama you know we love you.) that's what counts. Being in the GAME. Taking ACTION. WE ARE SURVIVORS!

Dear Dean

I understand your heart to always learn the best way to do everything. Even trial and error brings success.
I think some of the people that would help you also keep balance is someone like Jon Huntsman, Sr.
He has raised many children but he says he will give away all the money he has when he dies.
All of his children are a success themselves. But
more importantly his life will have had such an impact on the world. You too are helping people out of poverty and making an impact. But reading all about him might give even more insight into who you are and who you want to be.
I am getting over the loss of my husband and his battle with cancer.
I see the light at the end of the tunnel and will too become more assured as I keep listening to you.
Bless you and your giving to us.

Love your authentic openness

Proverbs 22:6

steinway024's picture

"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." as stated in the NIV. The Message version puts it this way. "Point your kids in the right direction - when they're old they won't be lost." As parents, we tend to overthink everything, because we care so much. You have to make decisions based in love as best you can, and the Lord takes over from there...if you let Him. We dedicated our kids to the Lord (they were baptized by their own decision when they were ready). We trusted God to guide our path, knowing we were not equipped to make the best choices on our own. Was it without problem? Of course not. But the Lord blessed our efforts and took care of HIS children, who just happen to be "on loan" to us. I'm not sure the school matters that much - sounds kind a crazy I know - but it so depends on the individual teacher experience - AND moreover - what you teach at home - your values and morals are what make the lasting impression.

DEAN

Dean your message was sign sealed and delivered.I agree with I.E member Walt you are very down to earth and luved by many. Thanks Dean.

Education and not forgetting where you came from!

TinaScott's picture

Dean, I want to tell you that I truly don't think you are a rich man speaking... I believe you are who you are because of your past. I have a past as well, I believe that's my WHY! Why I don't want to go there or have my kids go there. But one thing I will say for education, I had my oldest daughter in public school up until 3 years ago and now she goes to a Christian school that goes all the way up to 12th grade. Public schools have taken God out of the schools and there are things I personally by myself can't change, but I can change where she goes to school. I have a 2 year old and my 10 year old, they will be in a Christian school as long as they go to school. We are Christians and live by faith, I wouldn't be on here telling you this right now if we didn't.

Everyone has a past some are worse than others, but I just thank you for sharing your testimony because there are so many out there who just don't understand or can't even put yourself in the shoes of the other, but it's up to us what we do with it. We all have a choice. Our choice was to make a change for so many reasons but we still don't forget where we come from. Keep up the great encouragement.

Tina Scott

As usual good stuff Dean

CaliTony's picture

Going thru dark time right now Dean cuz my wife left for mexico last yr, been a yr & she wants me to move down there & am torn if I should or not, super hard choice.

I know you went thru something like that before in your past & Im sure you know how hard it is, your words were very encouraging, you are always helpful & inspiring, thank you for providing guidance in life, sooo many of us need it, we are like lost sheep Smiling And you are pastoring us LOL, but thanks really you do help so much, I will find a way, with Gods help for the answers, and also move forward in RE.

Made 6 offers this past weekend have one under contract & am making 6 more today! Cant wait to post my #4th deal & 5th deal! You rock Dean!!!!!!!!!!! See you at the Edge.

WOW!

Why not give those you love(yourself, kids, etc.) the best opportunity you can possibly have? That's what successful people do. Not to have a sense of "entitlement", but to have a sense of accomplishment. That's what I believe we all want in life. To give someone the advantage and not to take advantage of someone. And if that can be accomplished in our lifetime, why not have it? 80% of opportunities are created because we dare to be different. And then take action. So if real estate is the vehicle that we use to get there, then so be it. Dean you do so much for all of us on here. You give us the opportunity through real estate to change our lives for the better. For those that take advantage of the information that you give SO FREELY, can & will create a better life. We all have the same amount of time in a day, what we do with it is up to us.

it's a good problem Dean!

Valuni's picture

it's awesome that you care so much about your children, and that you worry so much about picking out the perfect school for them! However, I can see how it must be difficult when you have so many choices!

When my son was a toddler, and I was looking for a pre-school for him, he would literally hang on my neck and start crying every time we walked into a pre-school; I thought I would never be able to enroll him in a pre-school! then, one day, I went to a pre-school, and soon after I was greeted by the assistant principal, and I was being given a tour of the grounds, my son, who was holding my hand, suddenly walked away from me and went straight to the sandbox where a group of toddlers were playing with a teacher who was interacting with them.
... luckily, he was admitted to that pre-school, and to this day, 20 years later, I still keep in touch with the school and I also donate to them to help them provide childcare for low income families.

Dean, I would recommend that you visit the possible candidate schools, with your daughter, and get a feel for them; see how your daughter feels about them too. Sometimes children have a better intuitive ability than adults do... you may be surprised when your daughter points out things that you may not have noticed...

Good luck on your search! I'm sure you will pick the perfect school for Breana Smiling

Valerie

Weekly Wisdom 277

First of all, know that I am soooooo greatful for the Weekly Wisdom. I am truly inspired by your words of wisdom each and every week, this is something I look forward to in structuring positive reinforcement into my thinking after Mondays at work. As far as your children's education, they probably will never encounter a greater teacher than you.
