I understand some of us are new here and we are all looking for a mentor but from what I have learn most will not help you. I am a newbie doing this on my own and most of us cannot afford to pay for books and cd's most of us wing it. Thank God I ran into a real estate agent who is willing to help me and I help her Now that is what I call Helping one another. I am quite sure Dean did not place this site here for selfish people who only think about themselves and not about helping others succeed. I am appalled when I asked for help I got read a book when I literally cannot afford the book at this moment. I am not sure how people even sleep knowing the economy is rough for all of us and we all have to pave a way to make ends meet. But if you don't take a newbie by the hand who will. I am just saying now if it was someone who had the funding and you knew you needed then what do you think they would do? All Im saying is lend a hand help someone out and do it proudly knowing you were a great teacher and you passed on your knowledge to someone who wanted it and needed it.
Pay It Forward

That's what I meant...
That's what I meant when I was saying in another thread: "Remember when you started?" Let's not forget this is a public cyberworld-wide accessible website. Not a private 'site for elite members. (I think that costs ya extra...) LOL
Everyone comes into the DG family and real estate [investing] at EVERY level of life experience; from different walks. Some may be so young or "green" they have never learned the traditional method of buying a home, let alone the process, and/or the jargon. Some only know the process from living in a house their parents had purchased when they were too young to recall. And, therefore, they may not understand abbreviations and/or 'inside' verbiage. They may have never bought a property themselves. So how would they, could they know? Could it be possible they may be simple surveying this website and blogs, visiting, checking it all out. To decide if it's for them...? Deciding whether or not they should buy a book, take the plunge?
Some people are natural go-getters, some are timid and fearful. Everyone is unique. Some people are fresh out-of-the-gate.
Seasoned people have a tendency to forget this. (In all business genres, actually). As for some, they may have simply been intrigued by the REI opportunity via a late-night infomercial...
Everyone starts from a different place. Everyone brings something unique. Everyone has their reason why they would like to make more money through real estate investing. Just because a question seems obvious to one---doesn't necessarily mean it is to someone else. Don't make assumptions. Remember there are no "stupid" questions in the world. It's how people learn. It's understanding, comprehending.
If only ONE tidbit of information shared with a rookie investor, changes a person's mindset or lifts them up in their REI business...well, that's a big help to them! On the other the hand, words can have an adverse effect, too. Condescension is not helping people. No one knows everything. Genuinely "helping others" is a selfless act. On any level.
It is better to give than to receive...
Be kind. Rewind. =)
PS. Yes, being an REI is 'work'. The average person works for others, however. They have never been a business owner working for themselves. They are used to being told what to do. It's a different perspective. Some need to take baby steps before they can run with it!--It's a brave new world. Some people need to TOUCH it (kinesthetic), some need to SEE it (visual), some need to HEAR it (auditory). Everyone has a different learning style. We are unique individuals with strengths and weaknesses.
