Wonkbook: TARP firms favoring GOP; fiscal commissions hits tax deductions; Christina Romer warns against deficit reduction

This article is found at: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/10/wonkbook_tarp_firms_...

On Sunday, I rewatched an old episode of the West Wing. "Enemies Foreign and Domestic," it was called, and one of the subplots involved a computer-chip manufacturer who'd just discovered a serious defect. The company was doing the right thing and recalling the product, but that left it, and its 90,000 workers, in jeopardy. Leo wants a bailout. President Bartlett doesn't. And though, for awhile, the arguments gets made in economic terms, eventually Bartlett rounds on Leo. "They were huge contributors!" He yells. "Huge!"

Hi all!

My first forum topic post (yay!)

Just got back from the Insider's Edge seminar here, in Suffolk County, NY. I thought it was awesome and was wondering if anyone else has been? Trying to get a feel for the reactions and maybe some insight as well.....

Thanks and Good Luck to all,

Economic Commentary - September 2010

Slow Growth Ahead
Data releases over the past month leave no doubt that economic growth has slowed to a snail’s pace. Second quarter GDP growth was revised down to a 1.6% annual rate. Orders for durable goods other than transportation equipment fell sharply, and included an abrupt decline in a critical component—orders for nondefense capital goods other than aircraft. Existing home sales plummeted, falling to the lowest level since the series began in 1999, and the ISM index for non-manufacturing registered an unexpected decline in August.

Test Your Knowledge: Real Estate Matters: Buying a foreclosed house, dividing property in a divorce

This article was found online with advice offered to the buyer... How would you respond?

Q. I have been looking at a house in my neighborhood that went into foreclosure and is being sold by the bank. I have seen the property, and its current condition is just a framed-out shell. But my family and I immediately fell in love with it. It was new construction, and the builders ran out of money to complete the work.

The price of the house is $59,000. I discovered that upon completion, the intended price was to be around $550,000.

Obamacare's Effect on Investors: 3.8% Transfer Taxes

This was brought to my attention 4 days ago. Most states have a transfer tax already imposed on real estate sales. Only 14 out of the 50 states have NO transfer taxes imposed on real estate. Here is a link indicating those that do or don't: http://www.realtor.org/smart_growth.nsf/docfiles/TransferTaxRates(8-05).pdf/$FILE/TransferTaxRates(8-05).pdf

The National Association of Realtors works to keep these transfer taxes out in attempts to keep private property rights private.

According to the Health Care plan to take effect in 2012, there is a 3.8% tax on investment income and another 0.9% extra Medicare tax on wages, effective in 2013. (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274870465400457551877229093961...)

Angelic Face

I'm sorry if this isn't the right forum to put this topic! Laugh out loud!

But anyways, does anyone else find Dean Graziosi's face to be "angelic?"
I made french toast at 2 A.M. last night and I swear I saw Dean's face in my french toast... And I'm as straight (and rich) as they get, yet I still get some very strong, awkward feelings around my waist area when I see Dean's charming, perfect face. I could only imagine what he would do to me if I were to see him topless (or bottomless!!)

Anyone else get these feelings?

God bless the real estate market,
-Edan
