I'm Scott. Hello to my new family. Well I am not afraid to work hard to earn the things I want but I am also lazy at times. So with that in mind I am copying some of my 'About Me' here.
I currently live in Waco, Tx. I will be moving to Victoria, Tx soon. March(2010) is my goal month to move. I'm broke, of course, but I have a strong back and I am a hard worker. I am hungry for a better life and that hunger motivates and inspires me to go the distance.
2010 is MY year. 2011 though 2014 are mine also. I own and cherish BARM. I read it once though and am starting on a second time now. I planned it that way. The first reading was just that reading only with no action. A few things about that book: One I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would enjoy reading a book about real estate so much. Yes, I know that is an unfair statement about the book. It is so much more than just a book about real estate. I am not really sure how Dean did it since we have never met before, but I know he wrote Barm with me in mind. He knows me really well for never having met. The book was obviously written for me, to me, and about me. Dean, if you ever read this well nevermind I'll tell you in person once I joined the inner circle. I am doing a bit more than reading it this time. I am highlighting and taking notes, doing all the things that are suggested like writing down goals etc. Studying it like my life depends on it. My new life does actually depend on it doesn't it?
I am working on a plan for my new life, which will include goals for the here and now and also for the next 5 years. I am StudentScott right now and not DGReiScott because until I have invested in real estate twice I am just a student. Investing once would make me an owner, twice would make me a beginning investor.
As I mentioned above I will be moving in a few months. I am going to Tucson for a month or so to help my parents out in about 2 weeks. They are retiring soon, sometime this year, and moving back to Texas. I am going to help them do some things to thier house getting it ready to sell. So with all that in mind my plan is to study and learn over the next few months. Building my confidence and preparing myself to be "DGReiScott" and not just StudentScott. I am taking a little slower approach but based on the big picture of my future not just the right here and now. I am going to arm myself though learning with the power of knowledge over the next 3 months and there after to battle life for the freedom I desire and WILL earn.
I have spent many hours reading and studying here and I would like to thank everyone for eveything you do and to truly express what I mean by that let me say this. If I took no action at all. If I did nothing more than what I have done so far. Just reading Barm, and the hours I have spent reading and studying here with all of you has alredy changed my life for the better.
My goal for today is to complete a rough draft of my daily schedule for January2010. How I will study and learn about my new life as a REI.

Student Scott,
tag your it. I love your journal.
I know goals are so important, I have to update mine. I did do some goal planning recently but need to tidy it up a bit and break down into monthly, weekly, and even daily goals/tasks.
I did receive my book but haven't read it too much yet; I'm trying to learn to photoread which is a small book that teaches a technique to read faster but in a different way. It takes time to learn the technique which will pay off in the end. I do get caught up with everyone's journals and can spend lots of time here too and not take action steps but there is learning going on with building motivation, self-confidence, encouragement, and accountability plus little tidbits or bites of pie here and there, Scott will know what I'm referring to if no one else does.
Your Awesome Scott,
Keep up the Good Work
Cathy
Great journal! Enjoyed reading through it...you are going through so many of the steps I did when I started too.....info overload, hours reading on this site, reading and re-reading the books, etc. At the same time you also are doing great setting your goals!
Just remember to make small, daily goals you can actually check off as done...little feelings of accomplishment and actions steps will lead to bigger and better ones and that first deal!!!! Its such an awesome feeling!!
Always remember knowledge + action = results!!! Keep up the good work!

Hi Scott. Thank you so much for your help in learning some things about Germany. No we don't know where yet? We have a weekend in March when we'll get more info. Around March 12. I hope We'll find out then. Again thank you. I really appreciate it.
I'll try to remember some things that might be helpful to know.
Like...mexican food.
If you like mexican food get it now because there isn't any in Germany. During my 5 years there I traveled all over Germany. I found 2 places that were suppose to be mexican food. One was down right discusting, and our texmex is about 100 times closer to mexican food than the other place.
Germany has the best coffee I found in 17 different countries, and great chocolate also. Jacobs Kronung(grean bag) is the best coffee, and you can even find it here in bigger grocery stores sometimes.
Find out what you can about public transportation before you go. The Ubahn(untenbahn = subway) and Sbahn (strassebahn = street train). They are connected and a great way to travel on a daily basis(in bigger cities).
I soooo miss the food.
Germans are very friendly but have way different customs. Many Americans think Germans are rude and unfriendly. That is simply not true. A German will walk right past you without greeeting you, nodding thier head, or acknoledging you in any way. That is just thier custom. If you were to stop someone, even a complete stranger, to ask for help(like directions) they are even more friendly than we are. Especially if your actions show that you know you are a guest in thier country.
Example: You are learning thier language and don't just expect them to speak yours. Even if you know they do speak English show them you are trying to learn German. First impressions mean even more in Europe.

Anyone want to pay my edge fest costs for me? Please?
No I am not holding my breath.
I can and will get the money together...somehow, but it will take me some time.
I would really like to pay it in full now. I just don't see that happening. I am just worried about it selling out before I can afford it. I HAVE to be there I don't have a choice. It is part of my new life. I guess I will do everything in my power to MAKE it happen and if God is willing then it will happen. If not then I will have pleanty of time to prepare for next year's.
Creative funding ideas needed!!!!
Sponsorship? Who is experienced, bored, and finds life way to easy with no challenges, and needs a new student to take under thier wing and mentor? I volunteer to help. I know it's a great idea. I am helpful like that.
A percentage of my next X number of deals could be payment, unless of course, it is your pleasure and you WANT to do it for free. I would respect that.
I have the ambition, the white hot desire, the starving hunger, and I am willing to travel. Yes, my humor comes with me. How can you pass up this once in a life time life changing(for me at least) deal????
All this just came to me while sitting here at my computer kind of like Cbr sitting on his couch in the morning waiting for insane deals to fall in his lap. I am now about to get up and do something. It may be wrong, but I would rather do something wrong and learn from my mistake(s) then just sit here wishing in one hand while the other hand fills up faster.......

I appreciate all the tips about Germany. I am sharing them with my daughter. Also she has a friend whose older sister went for the school year 2008/2009 to Germany and that's been helpful. Can you believe she's only allowed 1 bag at 50 lbs for the flight. I will be sending packages that's for sure.
Thank you for all your help and posts of encouragement.
Cathy
Its nice to see you are still making it "Do What It Do" Yeah it would be so nice to make it to the edge event this year. I really would like to make it. I truly believe and know if we give it all we got the opportunity is there and plenty of time in between. We can do deals in a matter of hours and there are a lot of hours between now and May so I guess...........I will see at the 2010 Edge Event. If they have a Wal-Mart down there maybe we can get some poles and throw a line in. LOL

Shane, I just posted to your journal, I think while you were here posting to mine. (Small world/gr8 minds etc)
Yeah I'll be there I just don't know the detail on how yet but I will be there. You better be also!
We could fish in someone's swimming pool I guess, but this is AZ nothing but sand here no water. All the fish gave this place up to the lizards a long time ago....
I think we will be to busy and excited about REI and all we are learning etc to even think about fishing. We'll see.
Well it's time to "get er done" as the Cable guy would say. See you in AZ.

Quick update
Found a investor group to meet with, and a seminar to go to this week. Found a motivated seller but the numbers aren't quite right. I am trying to find a creative way to make things work, but may have to simply walk away from this one. I have a list of Fsbos to contact.
Got my plane ticket to finally go hom to Texas on the 27th. I will be moving a few weeks later. I am started to get excited about all of that. Pulling away from one place and moving to another is a lot harder than I ever thought. I am finally making this dream of living closer to the coast come true. I will be about 30 minutes from the coast but with salt waters bays closer. There are a couple of fresh water lakes in the area and a couple of rivers also. I will be living in a fishing paradise! If I am not fishing 6 days a week then something is wrong. I am working on how I can mesh fishing and REI. Once I figure that out my life will be complete.
I decided I had to go to the Edge event. I didn't know how I would pay for it, how I would get there, or where I would stay but I would be there. I told myself I did not have a choice I had to go and I WOULD go. My DG brother Joe tells me to believe and achieve so I believed and then achieved. Believing that no matter what it was going to happen made all the difference. It all just kind of worked out.
My spot at the Edge event is reserved!!!! Woohoo! I only have to figure out how I am going to get my plane ticket to get there and also how I am going to pay for my room. I am not really worried. I know the solution for those 2 obstacles will come to me. I have an idea about the room already. Each room at the Firesky resort has 2 beds so who already has a room reserved by yourself and would like to get half your money back on it? Pm me and we can exchance numbers and work out the details.
I am sooo excited about the Edge event and my new life that I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning!!!!!!
I now only have one question....
is it May yet????

Cathy,
We seem to be helping each other more and more. I like the way we are motivating each other etc. We need to check on each other even more now, keep each other motivated, inspirated, and on track. Working together it would be harder for us to not succeed than to succeed. Nothing can stop us. We should start celebrating now. We are already successful we just haven't totally realized it yet. WOOHOO!!!! Congratulations Cathy and Scott!!!!!
Cathy, I am proud of you. You have done a lot and you are constantly moving foward. You are awesome!!! Thank you for you!!!!
May is not really that far off, but at the same time a lot can and will happen between now and then. Control what happens and make it what you want it to be.
Think about what you want to happen between now and then. Use the exercise in Dean's current blog. Once you decide "where you want to be" in your REI career come MAY then think about "How you are going to get there" and make it happen.
I am doing the same. I am taking some time today for that purpose. I am going to go find a peaceful, relaxing place in the sun where I won't be bnothered. I am going to do some soulsearching and deep thinking about "Where I am", "Where I want to be", and "How I am going to get there". I am going to complete the ACTION exercise Dean gave us. Then later today or tomorrow I am going to post it in my blog. I am telling you all this so you can take the idea, personalize it to make it fit you and then use it for you. Dean gave us gift with this Action Exercise, more than most will realize. Don't waste it!!!
I am SOOOO excited about the EDGE event in so many different ways.
See you there!!!!
Scott

As I metnioned early in my journal because of my situation I am focusing on learning until after I get back to Tx and then move in March.
Well life decided not to wait for me to be get what I thought was "ready".
The day before yestyrday I recieved a message about a property near where I am at NOW(Tucson). This morning I got a phone call from an REI in Houston about my home town(Waco, TX), and today I got an email about a property in Dallas, TX belonging to a motivated seller that wants to sell it and close by the end of the month.
I have read and been told that things will eventually all start coming together and things just start happening. WOW!!! I never imagined it would be so easy. It seems so hard and comlicated at first but in reality it is so easy that success will find you even if you think your hiding and waiting until your "ready". I knoiw this is just the beginning too. There will be more and more oppurtunities. I need to get "ready" yesturday!!!!
This is so exciting. I am alread a successful REI I just have to start collecting my money and sharing with others!!!!!
This is simply to AWESOME!!!!!

I went to a trader's investing meeting(stock investing). I figured why not. They are investors and they might want to diversify and buy some RE from me or with me. I met a father and son team that currently own 4 4plexs. They have one for sale. I plan to either buy it of assign it. I am looking into the details. they also showed interest in more of the right kind of properties in the right area. I made notes on the criteria. Once I buy or assign that 4plex for them I will know they have some money just waiting to be invested so I will at that point discuss with them some deals they can't pass up on properties that meet thier criteria. That is my current plan anyway.
The following day I went to a REI seminar. It was interesting. I met a 28 year old guy who is now retired (full time REI now)and owns his own plane. lol He was the speaker. Actually meeting someone who already has the type of success that I want is a very motivating thing. I feel like I can see better now. Once you truly believe there is nothing in the known universe that can stop you. This seminar was less than a drop in the bucket compared to the EDGE event. I don't do drugs but I might need some type of downer to keep low enough in the atmosphere at the EDGE event. I feel like I am glowing with excitement and naysayers will be afraid and run from me knowing that nothing can stop me. It is almost scarey that no matter how great things seem they can and do get better daily.

You are definately on to something and it is nice to see that you are taking action. As you and everyone else can see, sometimes just a teaspoon of action is just enough to make your REI cup sweet. At the rate you are going I see you definately have a sweet tooth to go with that coffee you like to drink.. lol Im not going to lie for a minute there I was getting worried when you said you were going to WAIT before you take action. Now you are on the runway of REI and all those naysayers and other obstacles better get out of your way or get ran over.

Hey partner.
Great to hear and thanks for the message. It's great how things are happening for you. I did some drive by's today myself and hopefully at least one will be a gem. Keep us informed; it sounds excellent all that's happening to you and you deserve it.

Hi Scott.
To answer the question you left on my journal, 'Cathy, who can limit yourself?' Only 1 and that one is myself. I didn't mean to sound negative at all. I just meant that I need to think a little differently. Also I am going to use that flip video to record the houses so I can take it home and review it. Thanks for your support. I will put in offers on these this week. Take care and thanks for making me be accountable.
You Go For It Scott!
Cathy
Tomorrow I am relaxing. I have been going non stop for way to long. It's Scott time!
Friday I am going to Phoenix for the day and Sat I am flying back home. I will be home(Waco) for two full days then I am driving to Dallas for a few days(work). Once I get back to Waco I will have about 3 weeks to get prepared to move. I have sooo much to do. I am not worried though I will simply make it all happen. I have decided and not getting it all done in time is simply NOT an option. So basically I have been quite busy. I am taking a day off for me, then things are really going to get busy!
My New REI life:
I went to a Tucson REI club meeting this evening. I collected some business cards and networked even more. I am going back to Texas in a few days but you never know. I might need a contact here eventually.
I have been doing a lot of online research about the town I am moving to in a month. I have a list of properties I am watching. I am calling one tomorrow for more info. As soon as I get there I will be doing a walk through. I may make an offer on a couple site unseen before I get there. I am tired of waiting.
I have not heard back from the two property owners here in Tucson. I am not holding my breath about that 4plex but I am not giving up either. I will work that deal from Texas and fly back to Tucson if I need to.
I tried to call my partner in Illinois today and didn't get an answer. It has already been a couple of days since we chatted. She also on the go non stop so I am not worried. I will talk to her tomorrow.
Today is one day close to the EDGE event!! WOOHOO!!!!

i like your new journal name lol.haven't heard from you in a while but i was just reading through your journal and i think we'll have to meet at the edge.don't know how i'm gonna get the money before the doors open to everyone but i have to figure out a way.i've even offered to pay a premium if someone will buy and hold the tickets for me until i can get my first sale, something i'd normally never ask for but i feel i have to go.today i got a return call from a realtor i talked to about a month ago who had an investor who had 20+ properties and had 11 of them listed.at the time the seller seemed unreasonable to do any deals but today there needs have changed.i'm going tomorrow to look at all of them and try to do a package deal.maybe those tickets will be coming pdq.rob
