FDR's Journal

Newbie Frank here, age 60. Totally retired in July 2011 and looking for a challenge. I started a new career as an internet marketer, but my wife says all I do is stay in my room on the computer and we don't do anything together-- she has a point there.

Dean somehow found his way into my emails and I liked his videos. I decided to order one of his books as I always wanted to get into real estate and he sounded like a straight shooter. I read "Profit from Real Estate right now" and it got my attention. I saw the Edge 2011 videos and I was stoked. But life has a way of putting things on your daytimer that you aren't expecting.

In mid-August Mom was on a ladder putting a rubber snake in the front yard tree to convince them to find a new roost and keep their droppings off of her car. She lost her balance landed on her back breaking a finger on her right hand. Mom is 78, lives by herself and is determined to do things her own way. She has been walking with a walker and a month later is doing much better. She has basically been helpless for the last month and I did my share in taking care of her for a couple of weeks. Her improvement has been amazing.

My time away from home in Alabama to take care of mom in Illinois gave me some time to go over more of Dean's material and contemplate retirement. I don't want to become lazy in retirement. Neither do I want to have an income restricted by social security, government regulation, retired pay or the poor state of the economy. With the advice of the DGfamily I hope to become a successful REinvestor.

I ordered and read Dean's "30 days to real estate cash (the go fast no fear blueprint)" and upon my return to Alabama got my wife Alice to join me in the 30-day blue print challange. I'm excited to have her as a willing team partner.

We'll see how it goes.

FDR's Journal - Blue Print Pg #1 Phase 1

Wife and I are doing 30-day blue print by the book. We both read first chapter, watched the videos and did the "Why" exercise, a great exercise to get the ole' brain cells stimulated. We had to do it three times to get down to the core things that we think will motivate us. (aaarrrrggghh!)

Wife says she is glad we are doing REinvesting together, and is looking forward to doing it. I know the direction of the activity will depend on me. She knows very little about it right now but for me it feels like I'm drinking from a fire hose (info overload).

Am I scared?? Heck yes. Especially since we have been telling family and friends that we are going into REinvesting. If we don't succeed we're going to have to avoid family get togethers for the next 10 years.

We have really done it this time, there's no turning back now. We are going to have to plow ahead, one way or the other.

Phase 2 is when the real fun begins - First steps to becoming a wholesaler.

Contacted RE agent

I contacted a friend in Fla who is a RE agent and told him our new interest - REI. He was supportive. He is making me a list of deals following the criteria Matt Larson mentioned in the book.

Just received and looked over the properties list from my friend and I see a couple of 3/2s that look good. One even mentions owner financing. This house is 1.5 hours from home, but we go down to the beach there often.

I need to read some more about how to do the numbers formula and what to pay for a home. Then figure out the assignments process.

Feeling better already

Cleaned some furniture yesterday that had been stored in garage to donate to a dog rescue organization. I must have breathed in some of the dust because by evening I had a scratchy throat and today in poor health. Slept most of day.

On the bright side, got to read some of Dean's book "Your Town Your Real Estate Profits" and look at some listing sent by my REagent/friend. Feeling better already this evening and think I will be recovered by tomorrow--- yeah!
