Transitioning from public school teacher to REI

Transitioning from public school teacher to REI

I will take the big plunge this July 1st (2011) and take an early retirement (accepting an $18,000 annual; no health-care benefits "package"...which I've learned is a great deal more than most folks can count on from their "retirement plan"). My husband is very supportive as he has watched my enthusiasm while closing deals (4 to date!) and my frustration because I can't do more. Being committed to my 25 Middle School students and New York state standards and curriculum makes it near impossible to do in real estate what I know I could.
We currently live in Upstate New York and plan to keep our home here (my husband is a chiropractor and has a practice here)while I hop back and forth to Florida managing our 4 houses in the Fort Myers area, visiting family (we hope to live in Florida within the next 3 years, at least in a semi way)and planning our dream home purchase.
It is now mid February and I still have four+ months of focus in teaching six graders. I am excited as I continue to study Dean's 2 books, staying intouch with my 2 real estate agents (who have both helped me procure my properties)and re-connect with the Success Academy coaches, read/write this blog and learn all that I can!

Linda I can't believe that

Linda I can't believe that all the time I spend here, and write different post I have never seen one thing from you,or that you have not stepped forward before.

I live in Rochester and I have mentioned it many times, I have posted asking if anyone lived around here, but got the silent treatment.

If nothing else you could have corrected my spelling.

Frustrated teacher

Hello, Miss Tish. Your post caught my attention right away. There are alot of similarities to my life. I also grew up in New York and need to retire from teaching. I bought Dean's books about two years ago but have barely cracked the first chapter. I live alone and have been consumed with trying to make a difference in the lives of inner city children in music. The job is often futile when some of my classes are content in creating chaos rather than music. I've been thinking of making a change for some time now. I just spoke with my step-mom who lives in West Palm Beach. She's been investing in real estate for many years. I'd like to spend my summer vacation looking into real estate investing. I'm a bit apprehensive. I could really use some advice. If you want to talk to my step-mom since she seems to be in the same market let me know.

In teaching music and success,
Mike

Best of luck to you

with your transition. Obviously, you are already a force to contend with but if I can ever help, just give me a PM.

need some advice

As I am not teaching this week due to winter break I am torn as to how I should use my time. I began studying for my Florida real estate license and would have to take my state test in 2 weeks. I am hesitating as I re-read the law and learn that I could be fined and imprisoned!! for doing bandit signs, ghost ads or some of the cold calls I intend to do eventually...I am very happy to have the knowledge that I would not have any other way...I am torn however with whether I follow through and aquire my license or use my time to study Dean!! If I let this window go with licensure...and wanted to gain my license down the road...I'd have to start with courses all over again...What to do??

I am just returning...

Dear Jim:

I am embarrassed to share that I have NOT used this website as I should have from day one. I seldom, if ever, read more than (or listened to rather) Dean's message...and I've only listened to 5-6 of those. Well...I'm in full force now. sorry you didn't know of my existance...but that is because I really haven't "existed" here prior to the moment.

I am thinking this is my new "Facebook" (never spent any time on that either...now I for sure will spend even less!)

frustrated teacher

I absolutely want to talk with your step-mom...I'm not sure how this works as far as sharing phone numbers...I don't think we can...I'll have to read the rules again...

Dean's the real deal...I have purchased 4 homes and currently have tenants in them...I did it using the "Success Academy"...cost me roughly $6000.00...but I got every penny back once I followed the "assignments" and completed 5 deals...4 purchases...1 tenant (though I have tenants in the other ones as well!!)

If you read that you can give phone #s before I do...feel free to send me your's or your mom's.

At any rate...best of luck to you!!
