Paul's Surgery ( Cochlear Implant )

Hi,
I had computer issues last night, I could follow along but I couldn't post especially frustrating when I saw the potential for another mini countdown. Thursday - this is, as I have said before, so huge isn't it?
I cannot imagine what this experience will be like for you. All the luck in the world!

Yay I can't wait for tomorrow and that's the day they will be turning my ears on and have to meet with the surgeon at 3:00 pm and by 3:10 I will be going to the audiologist dept so they can turn my ears on and that's going to take about 2 hours until they get the right settings in my brains.

Just checking on how things whent hopefully perfect.I remember when a had to go to surgery I was really nervous but this is a whole different ball game best of luck whit the new expirience and just get plenty of rest. talk to you soon

Hi Angela and you arew right things are very overwhelming for me until my brain get used to the sounds that I never heard before. I do get very tired easily. Some says it took them about 3 months and some quicker and I hope I am one of them get it done quickly.

How is the recovery process? Like with all surgeries, you have to give it some time to heal. I know thing will settle down. Keep focused on the creator, he will bring you through this. Lubertha and I continue to keep you in pray. God Bless.

I am sorry I havent been online that much and I have been so busy doing alot of therapy so I can recover faster with sounds. This is a very noisy world I discovered and I do hear all kinds of sounds every day and it is amazing. I will be going to the auditory training so the audiologist help to me pronouce some of the sounds that I never was able to do before. I am doing remarkably well like for example : I used to say debra and the actual word is Zebra so that is alot of training to know how to use your tongue at the right time and place. So I can say Zebra perfect now !! The sounds are coming more clear everyday and they say it may take another 3 or 4 months until my brains is searching and knows what it is. They say I am an amazing and doing well. What they told me once day the light bulb will go on and everything will come in place. I am waiting for that day until my brain decide when we are ready to be in your world. I still get very cranky and tired still. I just have faith that day will come and we just dont know when. Maybe it will be tomorrow who knows. I had my hearing test done last week and I was 115 db on the chart and my newest db on the chart went up 95 to 100 point where the hearing level should be and which is 20 to 30 db and right now everything is not just quite clear yet. I did hear a needle fall on the floor and is that awesome ? I do hear very well though. I have to work on the audio sounds on the pc they gave me for hours each day. I will get there and I know I will. Never heard crickets and frogs on the trees before. Music is another world and now i can hear different instruments being played but the voices are not quite clear yet. Thanks for all your support and I will try to up to date more often. Hi Paul: I am glad you are making progress with your hearing after the surgery. It will take some time for you to adjust to your new sounds. Just give it time and enjoy your new noisy world. Like your doctor told you it will all fall into place after you train your brain to this new sense. Take in all the great sounds around you. I hope all is well on the real estate front, too. I am so happy that you feel up to posting, this is great progress as daunting as learning to hear and adjust to your new world must be!

Now you do not want to rush the healing process for fear of relapse, which will be much more difficult to recovery from. You have to look at your healing process as minute by minute, hour by hour and daily progress. Paul, I know you will like to be able to hear as much as possible, but sometime I would prefer not to hear some things at all, e.g. listening to the dreary new reports, gossips and negative conversations. We will continue to keep you in our prayers and may your recovery process be painless. God Bless.
