Now they are using the threat of stopping social security checks to our seniors as a way to use leverage to get the debt ceiling raised. Fear mongering at its best when the real culprits are the people sitting in Washington DC.
It is a shame that it has come down to this. I did not vote for Obama but this problem we are facing was caused by both parties over decades of stupidity. All that I know is that no matter how this turns out, I will never vote for another incumbent again. They spend too much time helping themselves and never think of the long term interests of our country. If they can try to propose a Balanced Budget Amendment, I think we should propose a Term Limit Amendment and stop getting professional politicians.

20 years ago, we joked that we would never receive a social security check & surprise it's coming to that. The Feds just need to keep spending on
nonsense & keep increasing the debt ... that would be nice if we could do that too.

I was watching Charlie Rose the other day - he had brilliant movie maker on and his comment was " We need really smart people in our Government" - I guess he forgot about all the smart people who got us in this mess and walked away with a secure retirements.

I just cringe when I heard him so non nonchalantly say our veterans,disabled, and elderly aren't going to get their checks if the debt ceiling isn't raised, but made no mention of the politicians not getting their pay.

I'm not sure what this thread has to do with real estate, but the President is lying. He will not cut off SS and VA benefits this close to an election. He would be all alone in that and be doing that by executive order, and that is absolute political suicide. He's just trying to scare people, and he's likely scared himself. He and his party have told many, many other lies about the "Budget crisis," too. This will pass.
I'm tired of the politician's lies. I want to go back the Anthony family lies.

is the lack of a solid economic framework that ordinary citizens can count on. Without it, it affects interest rates, employment, capital investment and hence, the real estate market. Their behavior is one of the reasons that this recession has dragged on (and will continue to do so) until they start thinking of us. They have run out of time.
