When I was in college, (72 - 76) I had a professor that taught me that the hallmarks of great societies and great nations were the manner in which they treated 1)their infirmed; 2)their aged; 3)their incarcerated; and 4)their insane.
This story really hit the mark on how we are not taking care of our citizens in the infirmed department. Sure, there may have been a better way, but he didn't see it...and I'm sure millions of other Americans don't see it either.

It is a sad commentary, but the system is the way it is because many more manipulate it. Welfare is not a stepping stone to recovery as it was in it's inception. it is now a way of life, compounded by the fact that a govt that robs Peter to pay Paul will always have the support of Paul.
