Tell about your mentor experiences

Tell about your mentor experiences

I am new to all of this and was hoping that someone could tell me about their experiences with the mentoring program where someone helps you through your first five deals. I'm a little nervous about signing a contract for so much money without being able to read over the contract for a few days with my wife. Hoping to be the next succes story.

Thanks,
Jim

Mentoring

I know people will want to know if you have done anything yet. Such as, have you bought and read any of Deans books. And are you one of this students. You don't have to be to get any help, but it would be good to let people know how much knowledge you have about investing.
I am from Wisconsin, and though I am not even close to some of these people on here, you can learn so much from them just asking questions. But I have his books and I am a student of his.
I would be glad to talk to you, and I do know how to make money with no money or credit. But you really will learn so much with his programs.
Because of a personal set back right now with health, I had to put things on a back burner, but I am not slowing down on calling FSBO and looking for deals.
So let us know more about your experience and what you can do. That is a good start.
You can even PM if you need to. I do not have a mentor and do struggle with some things, but when I have a question, these people are right on with helping me!! So tell us some more!
And let's get you going on this!!

That was a great post Sandi

Jim and Janet,

I can certainly see both sides of this issue. On your side, you would just like some help that doesn't have a price tag attached to it due to your limited income. It is understandable because we all like a bargain. We use to do pro bono (free) mentoring about 5 years ago but we found out it really doesn't work as the mentee (you) doesn't have any skin in the game and the mentor (us) feels like nothing is being accomplished and it becomes a waste of our most important commodity....time. I say this because Real estate investing is a business with a large payoff if you do it correct. Theoretically, your fees should be able to be made back upon you first completed deal. I know it is when we are the mentor but I cannot speak about yours. After all, in this business it is also easy to lose money if you don't know what you are doing. One bad estimation job on a rehab can set you back $25,000. Lastly, there is also a difference in mentoring, coaching or doing a joint venture with the person. Make sure you understand which one you are doing and what the parameters are (and promises) in the contract.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
