You really need to be persistent. You will have set backs. Try to learn as much as you can from them and move forward.
Something else I've noticed most rookies tend to have, and it is very destructive to your career, is what I call "Rookie Arrogance". This disease comes when you've read a couple of books and gone to a seminar or two and have the terrible idea you know everything.
I know this first hand. Looking back at my career, I had many very experienced and successful people open their hearts to me, to help me along. But, my ego got in the way and I decided I knew it all and closed my mind to them. Most are very wealthy, or went on to be very wealthy, where I struggled for a long time and spent my time learning from the school of hard knocks. Not very bright.
I really recommend closing your mouth and opening your ears and ask as many questions as you can, with a complete and total open mind. This will help you as much as anything.
Another thing to remember is to take responsibility for all you do good or bad.
If you do something great, give yourself a big pat on the back. If you screw up, find out what went wrong and learn from it and use it as motivation to get better.
Good luck to all,
Jim
