My why is to be able to take care of my Mother, she did so much for me, way after I was an adult.I owe it to her, I want to be able to send her places and buy her most anything. So this is my WHY !!!

Im sorry, but i think the link that you have posted itsnt working right, unless im doing it wrong...
Truth to the matter is, i dont know... course i want a better future, want to fend for myself and be able to support a future family, but isnt that just everyone else's dream?
I can honestly say i dont know why.
It is all about the WHY. You need to get Dean's book, or if you already have it , go to Chapter 2 , this breaks everything down for you. It is a 7 Layer's of Why. For instance if you just say you are doing this for money, there is more then that ,it brings out the TRUE WHY.
When I first got started ,I thought mine was only money , but after doing the
WHY TEST, I found out it was really to have the money to be able to take care of my Mother. So Please check that out, and let us know what your real WHY is.
Thanks and good luck and keep us all posted on your progress .

Hey Curtis, thanks for the advice, i agree with you 100%, the why is more important then anything else, its what pushes you when you fail and when it seems like theres no point on going on...

Irvin,
Knowing your WHY is the first step. Don't start anything else to you know this. Click the link I posted above and go through it!

I guess to really get to the 7th level of my "Why", I'd have to say that it is to prove to myself, more than anything else, that my original success at such an early age wasn't a fluke. I've been reaching and trying to re-acheive that success for so many unsuccessful years that I've begun to doubt myself and started to believe in the fluke theory.
My Father always told me when I was growing up that in order to be financially secure, I needed to be my own boss. I've been doing that for the past 20 some years (previously to these 20 I'd been working at jobs and building my biz at the same time. 20 hour days have been a part of my life for way too long!) and am as financially insecure as I've ever been. (Maybe Father doesn't always know best?) The good news is that I've been doing businesses that I've enjoyed being at unlike some of my financially secure friends. They have made fortunes being in businesses that they've admitted they hated and have suffered because of. My philosophy, as taught by my dad, is " If you have to work, and since you were not born into money so you have to work, you might as well enjoy what you are doing." So I may need to either change my philosophy or figure out a better plan to make that one work.
Why Real Estate? It's a vehicle for me that has a proven record of successful people. Ordinary people, like me, who can start from nowhere and end up somewhere (eg: Matt Larson, Carol Stinson, etc.) I'm as ordinary as they come. My feet are firmly planted on the ground. (Maybe that's part of the problem, my dreams don't have wings anymore.)The fact that my Mom was in Real Estate gives me a little edge as I've seen what can happen and know the pitfalls so I don't get too emotional about either end of the spectrum. I know that if I position myself correctly with Real Estate, I can attain that security and freedom.
Why now? I come from a line of people helpers. It started with my grandmother and grandfather who started a local movement in their home town to help the orphans in Korea after the war and it turned into a global movement for which they were recognized and honored by both our US Government and the Government of Korea. It was their feeling that as long as they had the ability to help, they had the duty to help. I've tried to keep that ideal alive with my own actions. I keep a Teddy Bear which I received as a gift from Syngman Rhee (The then president of Korea)when I was a baby by my bed as a reminder to help those you can, whenever you can. My parents followed their example and were always helping in the community we lived in. You see, we lived in a town that was in between the towns both my parents grew up in. They knew almost everybody and were the first people called when help was needed. In fact, both my parents, my sister and myself were all born in the same hospital. (That's a small town/area!!!) They also opened our home at holiday times to servicemen from the local military fort in the area when they had no place else to go. Now, more than in any time I can remember, people need help so I am trying to be that help or get them that help.
To take this a little further: Why am I on DG.com?
I've always enjoyed teaching people what I know. There is no future in holding back your information to yourself. I'm here because I have some insights that might help a fellow DGer get to their dreams. It ties into what I said previously. It fulfills my need to help and helps the recipient move forward with their dreams. It carries forth my Grandparents' legacy of helping and keeps them in my present thoughts. It also, sometimes, reminds me of things I'd forgotten I knew which helps me move forward with my own career.
Sorry for making this so long but for those who know me, you know I rarely have short answers LOL

That's a great WHY & quite similar to mine.
My father told me once that the key to life is to always have options (not just the REI variety).
Being able to help my family, expand my horizons, to make choices based on WANT, instead of NEED.
REI gives me the opportunity to live a full & rich life. So, my WHY is the freedom to have more options.
Persist...until.

To be able to get the best medical help in the event my wife ever gets sick and suffers from an illness.
I watched her stress watching me suffer from a Strep infection in my foot. I almost lost my foot and my life over a major infection. I am also suffering from diabetes and cancer. My wife tries so hard to help me, but she feels helpless. There is nothing that she can do for me other than try to make me as comfortable as she can and to pray. I am so thankful for her love.
I don't ever want to see her suffer as I have. There are many places around the world that have alternative ways for treating major sickness and disease. I want to be able to give her the best care possible to overcome any illness before it comes to suffering. That is my why! To have choices! To live a quality of life up until we go to meet our maker. Thanks!
As a man thinks in his heart, so is he!
Think on these things: whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy- meditate on these things
^^^^ wow, im sorry to hear about your medical problems, i hope the best for you and over come what you guys are going through. With a positive attitude like you have, you'll get through anything. im positive of it.
I believe and speak every day that I Am well. I am looking forward to my body lining up with my confession. I think only on positive, good, and lovely things. I am a successful real estate investor! God Bless!

is the most POWERFUL exercise. It seems so easy and basic, but it opens up a whole new world of understanding.
My ultimate WHY's were..
• because as a child, I was always told that I would amount to nothing by my mom's side of the family because my mom had schizophrenia and they expected the same from me.
• because I've always beaten the odds and proven them wrong time and time again, and its important to show them, the world, and myself that I have God given capabilities and no one is going to stop me from using them. I want to make a difference in the world, and I want to pass on my knowledge to others, and be in a position to help others become financially independent and overcome any obstacles blocking their path as well!
Think of yourself completely happy and successful in one year, one amazing year… , WHAT had to happen to get there? BE EXTREMELY DETAILED!!! Picture yourself there looking backwards will tell how you got there. This is from one of Dean's blogs as well I believe.
Another great exercise is to describe your ideal day. Minute by minute, hour by hour, go through the absolute best scenario of what your day would look like if there were no constraints. What would your day be like? I did mine and it was over 2 pages written out. But it really does good to get in the mindset of seeing yourself in that 'ideal day'. I believe I got this one from Patrick Riddle, but it is also an amazing exercise to do!
That is so intense. I pray you overcome all that ails you physically. Contact me, I want to get you in touch with someone who helped his wife beat cancer with a life style change. I'm sure he would love to talk with you!
thanks for sharing! You are on fire right now, throw some gas on it.

Like Curtis, I too aspire to help my ailing mother (whether she wants to admit it or not).
To echo some of the things AndyS posted. I would like to comfortably “work” at something as hard (or not) as “I” want to and be secure in my vocation without the threat of lay-offs, down-sizing, etc.
In reading the previous posts, I have to say my “WHY” is echoed by a number of DGers. Add to that is to live a healthier life free from the medical “marry-go-round” that has sidelined me (somewhat).
I recently looked at my “bucket list” and realized I accomplished most of them. AS for the rest, well…. At age 52 I still have plenty of life left. REI allows me to comfortably live out the rest of my life and serve others. Fulfilling GODs purpose for me.

thanks for starting this post it gives us a lot of motivation!
yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present."
"Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still"
Ive done the 7 levels deep exercise, and i found my WHY.. For me the reason WHY i am doing REI is because i want financial freedom and more time to spend with my dad and mom. My dad suffered from a stroke about 13yrs ago. He lost movement of his left arm and left leg. I know he has a lot of dreams and he wants to visit a lot of places before he passes.): he has told me that before... He has been through a lot in his life in order to get our family to where we are at now. He has done SO much for me and my family, all i want to be able to do is to spend more time and take him anywhere he wants! and that requires time and money(of course). I dont want to ever regret not spending enough time with him or wishing i could of done more for him in his life.):
All of you guys have GREAT "why's" it is very inspirational!! If we learn, learn and take action! we can all succeed. Success to us all!!
Robert.

I will not have any income soon within the next few months actually, so my why is to support myself since it is just me, no spouse, etc. If I don't do it I will be homeless and I then I won't even know what to do.
