I have found a group of duplex properties that seem to have been abandoned. I will be going to the courthouse tomorrow to possibly get more information on who is currently controlling the property. I have already gotten info from the tax assessors office.
Once I get the information, can anyone give me ideas on different ways to earn money from these properties?

The most logical solution would be to contact the property owner and offer to buy the property. You could do this through conventional financing or a land contract.
If you find that back taxes are owed, you could purchase the property at the tax sale. Depending on the state's requirements for redemption on an abandoned property, you may be able to gain possession quite quickly.
