Well folks, here it goes....
Sept. 8,2008
I ordered Dean's BARM book and received it just about one week ago. I'm almost done, and already using post-it tabs, highlighters, and colored pens to mark the things that I want to be able to "quick reference".
I have spent a lot of time browsing this sight the last two nights, and like what I am hearing from all of you. It just gives more fuel to the fire.
Since I started reading the Dean's list, watched the video, and started the BARM, I have been spending every moment that I am on the road going to and from work, and when dropping my kids off at school, scanning for distressed properties, bank owned properties, and FSBO signs. I get more excited everytime I see one. I've been writing down addresses, and will start carrying my camera with me starting tomorrow.
I have already found one "We buy houses" sign, and have the number, which I will be calling to see if they pay a finder's fee. I have also found a sign saying that they will finance for 5.99% even with bad credit. Still sceptical about that, but it never hurts to investigate. I have found an REO property that belonged to my youngest daughter's friend's family, and now I just need to find financing. Actually found someone in the local newspaper advertising that they had money to spend on property, and wanted to have a partner, so will see if they would like to do assignments.
So much research to do!! I have been on the web, searching out properties in my area. Much to be found. Now, just need to get in that creative mode to start coming up with ingenious ways around my bad credit rating, and lack of cash, and/or assits.
Wish me luck, and I will let you know how it goes.
Hopefully, I will be one of the great success stories! Along with all of the rest of you....

Sounds like you've already jumped straight forward into your REI career! Good job on all the research and keeping your eyes peeled.
Welcome to the DG family! We're excited to have you here. Thanks for starting a journal. It will be fun to follow along as you start out on your REI adventures! I have no doubt you will be one of the DG success stories!
God bless,
Rina

It's good to hear from one who's been there. I am already experiencing negative feed back from my REA friend. She keeps saying "can't", and "won't", and I keep coming back with "It's worth a try, you never know until you try". So maybe once she has helped me with some info, I may try to find another person to help, or just do it all myself until I have something locked up. The last thing I need is someone trying to bring me down before I even get started. That's why I'm glad I have this site, and all of you on it, that give such encouragement and inspiration. Thanks for being there!
Nice to meet you, and hope to be able to tell you some good stuff in the near future.

You're going to run into a lot of those 'nay' sayers. Limit your interaction with them so they don't discourage you. When you get your first deal done, they will be there with their mouths open in shock that you DID in fact do it. Feel free to come here and charge your batteries, I do it often! You have the support of all of us that have and are doing it behind you... So keep those dreams alive!
God bless you,
Elena
Psalms 118:23 "This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes."
Thanks for the encouragement! I'm looking forward to saying "I knew I could!"
As for today, nothing much happened. Took the kids to Grandpa's straight after work, so they could spend a little time with him. (Just got out of the hospital after triple bypass.) Took my book to read, but too much going on there, so I am going to take some time before bed.
Had a possible lease option in the works, but was told that it couldn't be done. I am going to look through the website to see if there is any other forums about this particular thing, so I can get some feedback there. I want to see how I can make this a "can-do".
That's all I have time for now, so...

Great news! I have been accepted into Dean's Success Academy!!! Just got off of the phone after doing the paperwork, and I'm already chomping at the bit, ready for that first deal! I want to thank all of you on the site who have been an inspiration to me, and especially to those of you who have shown that it CAN be done. I will should be starting with the coaches by Monday, hopefully. Still working on a name for my new business. That will keep me occupied for a day or so, and then I will probably go back and review, highlight, and flag those parts of Dean's book that I want to be able to "quick-refernce". That should keep me going, until I get to start online.
My one year goal is to make at LEAST 5 deals, and have a house of my own for my family. Long term goal is to build my dream home before my kids graduate from high school. That gives me about 4 years. I already have a basic floor plan, and ideas how to tweak it to fit my own tastes. Can you already tell that this has been a dream of mine? YEP!! Now, I'm gonna make it happen!
I will keep you all posted on the progress...

Congratulations! You WILL get those deals, and you WILL have that dream house!
We look forward to hearing of each success along the way.
God bless,
Rina

I got through the orientation (a couple of times), and just received my first DVD package today. I believe there is another one coming in the next day or so. The next two days will be filled with family obligations, so I will have to start the next phase of training during the week. I am very exited about getting this going. I have been clearing my calendar of other activities that I had scheduled, so I can strictly focus on my new REI career.
My husband and kids are being very supportive. So is my dad, who is the one that always told me that real estate (land) was the best investment a person could have, because it is always there, and always tangible.
Will update as I get into this deeper.

Hi Kimberly,
There used to be an old TV show called "Father Knows Best." Your dad is in the know, and it is great that your husband and kids are supportive. I believe you will be successful in real estate (sooner or later) if you just keep listening to those that support you, and don't listen to the naysayers.
