Weekly Wisdom #192
Hi Dean,
I think we can all identify with you about stressing over stuff. Like you mentioned, we also get anxious about good things too. We can either learn from them, or run from them. When I attended Shaw College, I did not know that the pass mark was 70%. I also did not get enough OSAP, since I was not yet a Canadian citizen. I had to work every evening, and every Saturday from 8:30 a.m., till 5:00 p.m. I left the house at 7:30 a.m. and did not get back till 10;00 p.m., then I started homework till 3:00 a.m. That was a regular for me for a complete year. I did not intend to fail, so I did what it took to pass. It was a two-year program condensed into one year. I once had a project to do and it took me till 5:00 a.m. I saw the sun come up before going to bed for one hour. I was up by 6:00 a.m. I handed in the best project, though, and the teacher was upset with many who did not have my kind of schedule, yet, did not even hand in a decent project. For six months, I had three hours sleep every week night, then we had two weeks vacation, and another six months of three hours sleep every week night. I slept more on the weekends, though. I lived with my brother and sisters and my mom at the time. When it was my turn to do laundry, I used to have to run home on a Saturday, to get the laundry for six people ready and sorted in half an hour, and put in the laundry machines and I had to have them dried by 9:00 p.m. because the laundry room closed at that time. I managed! Sometimes machines were hard to find. On Saturday nights, I would sleep to make up for the lack of sleep for the week, till 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning, get ready for church, then catch up on my studying for the week - I had absolutely no time to study during the week. I managed to achieve a grade of 84%, one mark lower than the honours mark. A teacher yelled at me for no reason during an exam when I asked her for more paper. Our regular teacher was not going to be there and asked us to ask for paper if we need more. It was for accounting. I went to the office and was very upset. I got exactly 70% for that exam. I was so upset!!! I would have graduated with honours if it were not for that. But things do happen and it did not kill me. I still ended up with a good grade and graduated on time. Sometimes Dean, no matter how mature we are, human nature takes over and we fret over horrible or not-so-good things, and think and get anxious over the little, good or great things in our lives that are about to happen. No one is perfect, not even you! Ha, ha. Even the bible said no one is worthy, but our heavenly Father, being so forgiving, is always there for us.
Talk to you soon,
Annis
Great Tip
Thanks Dean for another great tip. Very practical and helpful. Very few things will end your life unless you worry too much and can't sleep! They you are unproductive. Keep them coming!
