Update: apparently reinvestor42 beat me to the punch.

good advice on all accounts!
I know what you're asking as you can do this on some other forums.
The way this site is currently set up, you can't.
What happens is that any threads you have read or visited, upon your next visit or refresh of the site, you will see underlined blue numbers. These represent new comments made in that thread since you last viewed it.
Try starting your visits here by clicking on "What's New!" to the left. This will give you all the latest stories, replies, threads and user profile updates.
Looking inside your "My account" page will show you the latest replies for the five most recent threads you have participated in. The "Track" tab inside your account (and those of other users) will show all the threads that that member has ever participated in.
A reason why they don't allow individual "mark as read" options is because oftentimes someone will reply with a nugget of info that everyone can benefit from.
There's a lot of times I would've hidden a thread after I read it (if I had the choice) only to re-visit it later on and find quite valuable, new information.
Once you've been here for a while you'll get used to it and it'll become second nature where you want to go and what you want to look at.
Welcome to dg.com.
To your success!
