How to name my business

How to name my business

I've been having a heck of a time coming up wth the right name for my new business. I finally found a website that was extremely helpluf. I also contacted about 20 of my friends via e-mail and can't wait for their input. It'll be too much trouble to change it later, since I want to do LLC and need to deal with the state. In case anyone is looking for some help, try this website.

I name all my

businesses only after I find a registerable domain name. And I try to think outside the box a little by attaching two words that aren't usally together in nature. Example: HighStone or RedCreek. There are a million combos out there. I also use 1and1 to register all my domain names (now at 40+) as I love their service and price.

I checked it out, very good tips and help. Thanks for posting as I am trying to come up with a new name. I have two businesses and want to separate them by name. Thanks
Sandi

Hilda

thank you for sharing the website.

Other tips on selecting your business name:

Use familiar Landmarks in your ares
Don't use words associated with Licenses
Use words that tell what you do; i.e. XXX home investors, XXX property solutions, XXX home ventures, XXX home remedies...

wishing everyone success,
Valerie

Business Name

Thanks for the tips. I googled the names I chose so far, just to see if and where
the same or similar name showed up. Didn't see them. I think that's a good sign. Smiling

Next step is the domain names.
I'll grab them if they're available and then hope one of them is available with the state.

I was originally going to just work as sole proprietor doing DBA with the county,
but that could turn out a real mess, when I want to change to LLC later.

So I'll just deal with the LLC and the state now and be done with it.

you may want to stick with LLC when doing business in rei; there's a whole thread on that topic. Just enter 'LLC' in the search box on the top left of this page and hit enter...

If you're planning on using the same name for registering with the state that you will use for your domain, it is recommended that you register with your state first to make sure that the name is available.

Check State site for name availability.

http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/ is the California site to check business name availability. So you can check it before you register domain name. Good luck, and, peace.

I am direct to the VP of a $100 million dollar open-ended debt and equity fund which actively writes checks to fund businesses with an EBITDA of at least $1 million a year. We fund also have access to up to $500,000,000 for the purchase of distressed real estate, specially commercial $7,500,000 and up.

Dana

thank you, I will check.
I had read that checking for name availability needed to be done in writing.
But if I search for the name I want to use and it doesn't come up, that would
be a good indicator it's available..... Smiling

Another suggestion

I usually recommend that you include SOMETHING about real estate. (services, investors, strategies, solutions, experts, etc) This way people seeing your company name know that you are involved with properties. I also feel like it is important to have something about real esate on your business cards, because it is easy for people to forget who you are or what you do if it has been a while since they have seen your card. A reference to real estate in your name or on your card will cause the "A-ha! That's what they do!" recognition we need to get from our potential buyers, colleagues, or power team members.

business name

thanks for your suggestions.
I think I've decided on a few.
I will definitely have a tag line on my business cards/website etc to explain what the business is all about. Now I have to see which one is available.
I appreciate your help.
