Thanks for posting Matt it REALLY helps knowing that even you that are now on your way to making 1000 deals this year, has gone through this as well. I WILL NEVER QUIT!! I KNOW I CAN DO IT!

The more it thought about it the more i realized.. u know what? these people that are saying this are not who i want to be in the future so why would their advice matter to me? I NEED to listen to people like all you guys here who have the same goal! SUCCEED in REAL ESTATE INVESTING!

Cris i thanks for the great post. I see that your moving foward and nothing can stop you!(: I know what you mean about feeling discouraged somedays... That does sound like a good idea, il start carrying my 7 layer deep paper with me all around. Just incase i have another situation like this or just loose my motivation for what ever reason. Your also right about TAKING ACTION. You NEED to TAKE ACTION but also... WORK HARD! It will be all worth it once weve succeeded!(:

I know its great that Matt commented(: and it does give me a lot more confidence knowing that hes also been through this. I think everyone if not the majority of us will have to deal with these naysayers! We just have to KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

I have a meeting with two sellers tomorrow at noon and at 3pm, im a little nervouse but no where near how i was just a few weeks ago. Little by little im gaining more confidence. Then once i complete a deal my confidence will burst out of the roof! lol

I've actually not yet got Deans new book but will order it this weekend for sure! i read his last 2 and both are great. IM going to start to keep a list of goals and dreams i have, next to me to help me move forward!

why do you care what these people say?
they may be your friends....i.e. aquaintances, lol
you know you have very few friends in life. you have plenty of aquaintences.
you also have more than enough backup right on this sight. nowhere else on the planet will you find more support, more inspiration, and more of a "KICK IN THE PANTS" than you will here.
i'm a christian, but i take info wherever i find it and this one comes from buddha: "it's a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways". in other words, you CONTROL your destiny. noone else. do not let ANYONE steal your dreams.

Tammy it must be very difficult for you. Especially since the nay sayer is your husband!!! A person who's that close to u and is around you a lot.. its amazing how you can just ignore all the negativity. There are thousands (maybe millions) of people that have not fared well in REI!
Just like in any business, FEW actually make it. I don't know the exact statistics but the SBA states that over 50% of new businesses fail in the first year. Of that remaining 50% over 80% fail in the following 5 years.

Anyone that says you can't make money in real estate is totally 100% wrong and should be IGNORED!!!!! However, it takes hard work and education. More important than the book learned theory is the COMMON SENSE needed to put what you learn into an effective business plan and TAKE ACTION.

Just blow these people off! If Edison had listened to his friends we would be using candlelight and if Ford had listened to his friends we would be riding horses.

This is something I learned very quickly. When speaking to someone not familiar with REI, the more you say the crazier you sound to them. Its like you're speaking a foriegn language. Even when talking with my closest friends I use the same line: "Im currently working with a group of investors and we're looking for distressed properites. If you come across any, please let me know." Follow that up with a business card handout. Keep it simple. Its the truth, right? Ive made the mistake of the entire, "I look for properties, lock them up on a contract, send then to my buyers list, assign that contract over to an end buyer.....etc,etc. Then I end up falling over my words, and backtracking. Keep it simple.

I came to realize that NO ONE can 'steal' our dreams. We have to roll over and give it to them. No one has that kind of power unless we equip them with it.

You just have to realize that God made each and everyone of us unique, with our our desires, capabilities, talents and gifts. HE has already equipped you with everything you need to fulfill your destiny. NOTE: I said YOUR destiny. The naysayers don't have what you have, they don't know what you know. God didn't put that dream inside of them. It's o.k. they just don't understand and comprehend it; it's foreign to them. It's like speaking a different language all they can do is look at you with that blank stare and say "no comprehend!"

You have to chart your own course, fulfilling your own desires. Don't waste time trying to explain or validate yourself to them. You have nothing to prove to them anyway. When you live NOT to please 'man' it is soooo freeing. If we strive everyday to please everyone, to make them happy, to like us, to understand us, to motivate us, keep us pumped up all the time..... when will you have the energy to take action, to do what you were meant to do?

You just have to deal with the fact some people are just negative, hurting people hurt people. It's not our place to judge them, let their words fuel you. Be kinder than necessary to those that hurt. You never know what made them the way they are. You could be the light in their dark room. A little ray of sunshine! You may be used to bless them, encourage them to step out an pursue their own dreams. You never know!

We CAN choose what we take personally. I look at it as if that same person just told me I was a "7'6" 400lb black man. Well since I'm 5'11" 145lb white girl, It's so far from the true it's absurdly ridiculous! My POINT is know WHO you are, and WHOSE you are! When it doesn't line up with what you know to be true, dismiss it!

Though I will say, I got something similar in that the person thought they were being "helpful" in telling me that I was going to have to change everything about myself in order to make it in this business. My social life, the way I interacted with people, my hair, my make-up, (I don't tend to wear it,) my personality, my wardrobe,... and you see, she "Knew" how this all worked because her brother is a Realtor over in another state...

Yeah, suffice it to say that I smiled at her, ... and then quietly excised her from my life.

I want to tell u something.........I have a few rules with, and in my life.....NO MATTER WHAT !!!!

#1. I'm an adult....I make the choice- RIGHT OR WRONG

#2. No one is going to beat me up- verbally or otherwise
(Sometimes when people laugh at what other people do, it's their insecurity- they don't understand what your doing- AND THAT'S OK, THEY DON'T HAVE TO)

#3. I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to make my life better-
AND I INTEND TOO.

Place yourself around successful investors in your area. Once you here all there stories on how they got started, you'll be blown away. Success is inevitable, as long as you keep going until it happens. Most Realtors & Investors quit in the 1st & 2nd yr & they don't realize they are building there contacts & referrals all that time.

I was 70k in Credit debt & behind on my mortgage payment, but since I built strong relationships & educated myself on how to get properties under contract, the money and joint venture partners are there when you need them.

Don't even try & convince these type of people that don't have the vision, as It's a waste of time. Just show them with your results. That should make you want to push even harder, as it did me when my relative shot me down, asking me "when do you give up" & The answer is never. Get that in your mind set from the start, or your going to have a rough time, because it can be the hardest thing you'll ever do, you just have to want it bad enough.

Michael you are a perfect example of someone whos making money in REI! If anyone ever tells me that this dont work or i cant do this and that, im just going to IGNORE and walk away. Theres no need to try to explain something to someone whos a nay sayer.

Scary statistics.. but like you said HARD WORK and KNOWLEDGE is a must. Im learning more and more everyday. Thanks Michael

your right lol when i first tried to explain what im doing to some of my friends, they where like...huh??? how are you going to get the money to buy all those houses cash?? after a while i just stopped explaining lol.

Jen its True no one is able to take away my dreams unless i allow them to. I CONTROL MY DESTINY. Im not even going to try to explain anything about REI to them.. i need to focus on becoming successful.

Thanks Ersie i like that. "I AM AN ADULT" They have no say in what i can and cant do!! i guess like Jen said people are going to be mean and negative. Theres not much we can do about that, but just shield ourselves and keep moving forward towards our dreams/success!

Thanks Jason and congrats on becoming successful and not letting anyone stop you. Its great that you paid off all that debt! it must feel really good to now be making deals. Your totally right no one can stop me if i REALLY WANT THIS BAD ENOUGH! which i do lol.

Its great that you are doing this in san jose ca. I live in the Tulare county wich is near fresno, ca. It just shows that people are making REI happening in all US.(:
