I'm wondering if there is any correlation between success in REI and personality. For example, after watching this week's weekly wisdom I noticed that all the student speakers seem to have exceptional speaking abilities. They're almost like professional speakers on stage. They not only know how to deliver their message, they also know how to properly structure their thoughts and words. They are not afraid of public speaking and their talent is professional quality....if I didn't know any better, I would have said they were actors or trained professional public speakers.
Has anyone else noticed their talent?
P.S. - Everything else is immaterial, irrelevant, and unnecessary.

and they may attend toastmasters.org to learn to speak in public. I wouldn't be afraid to stand up on stage and talk about my success. I think it will be awesome when that opportunity presents itself. I used to drive a tour bus and I loved having the passengers eating out of my hand as i delivered the history along with some anecdotes that they would laugh at. Same as a comedian feels the audience as he's telling his jokes. It lead to great gratuities as well. you build a rapport with the audience whoever they may be. I think it will be fun and awesome.
think of all the education online about how to be a really great public speaker. I realize now that the fear may come from having to memorize a speech and recite it perfectly. However if your speaking from your own personal experiences it seems it would be much easier to do.
all the best,

Love the beginning of the article: "Jerry Seinfeld made a great joke based on a simple observation:
“I read a thing that actually says that speaking in front of a crowd is considered the number one fear of the average person. I found that amazing – number two was death! That means to the average person if you have to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.”
I think people feel some anxiety, but they learn how to cope and get it done!

I do not think they are taking any extra professional class. It is the confidence they have received from achieving their goal. The first time you start in REI is nerve recking because of the unknown. Once you get through your first and second and third deal your confidence just keeps growing. Also the more you do of the same and in real estate you will hear and see many of the same terminology. This also helps you grow because you get use to hearing it and you say to yourself I know what that is! On top of that you are surrounded by many DG family members who at a drop of a hat will be more than happy to help if you ask. Dean also has an amazing group of people in his organization that will also be ready and willing to answer any questions. Bottom line is as a student you are not alone you have so much support. That is what you see of the students who are speaking in their videos or in person. They are confident of who they are what they are learning and who they are surrounded by. There is no way you can go wrong if you fall we are here to help you get up! That has helped me so much all of my family and friends come to me for advise or questions!
It is amazing the strength you will find when you are surrounded by positive goal driven like minded people!

Yes i was a "Future Fag of America"!...LOL
We did a presentation on whatever we wanted to ...The only requirements was it had to be a certain time frame length long!...so i did mine on American Paint Horses...even when i was saying word for word...i was still stuttering really badly...but i dont even understand myself sometimes...for i can go talk to someone next to me or something and be just fine or even a group of people...yet to get up on stage or something and talk in front of a classroom size or bigger i just stutter!...LOL...and yes i still laugh at myself over it to...
I was told there is many ways that helps but i think some of them are not so PG rated either...LOL! and heck i dont even remember only i think a handful of them anyways...lol

As Walt said, it's about building rapport. As Mike said, it's a people business. Mastering public speaking is one way to expand your comfort zone. All the good growth comes outside of your comfort zone. Fear is what keeps the majority of people from enjoying success in real estate. That's why taking action is stressed, because it expands your comfort zone. You have to keep doing uncomfortable things until they become comfortable. Perhaps feeling comfortable speaking in front of a large group of people is a by-product of an expanded comfort zone.
Good points. I also think good old common sense plays a major role in REI success. What to say, what not to say, how to say it, when to say it ETC ETC.

I think that with success comes the confidence... or does success come from the confidence??
hmmmm, this is like the egg and chicken dilemma!
anyway, if you look at some of the videos of DG's successful students, you can see how far they have come. I'm attaching a link to Chip and Andrea's; if you watch it you will hear them say that their confidence came with their successes, and I think that's how it is with most of us.

You are seeing their confidence. They do not need a script because they are speaking form experience and past events. It is all true. When you believe what you are saying it comes acrossed. I am not as well know as many of the students but i can tell you with 100% confidenc that they are not actors. this is the real deal...
