1. USA's first-ever successful heart transplant occurred at University of Mississippi's Medical Center in Jackson MS, 1963
2. FIRST Debate of the 2008 Presidential Campaign was held on the Ole Miss campus in Oxford
3. NOT ONLY was Miss Mississippi crowned as Miss America for 2 consecutive years back in 1959 & 1960, BOTH Miss America winners from Mississippi were students at Ole Miss AND Chi Omega Sorority sisters as well. A MISS MISSISSIPPI TRIFECTA of-sorts
4. Elvis Presley was born in my hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi (Elvis had an identical twin, too, who died at birth). Called Tupelo home for the first 12 years of his life until he and his family left for the big city of Memphis, some 90 miles NW of Tupelo on the Arkansas/Mississippi/Tennessee border.
5. Effective NOV 2011, TOYOTA will officially open its FIRST ever Mississippi manufacturing facility in Tupelo (2012 Corolla----world's ALL-TIME best-selling car @ 35M & counting)
