government grant loans

Would anybody know how to apply for a government grant loan to purchase a house or where to go on internet? I had a friend of mine tell me that the government offers grant loans to 1st time buyers and also to everyone else to purchase a house and you can use to by a rental? Not sure if that is correct or not?
