July 27th, 2010 | posted by dallinnThought the housing crisis was over? Not quite.
Despite four years of falling prices and recent signs that they were finally bottoming out, homes are expected to lose still more value in many metro areas over the next year.
Parts of the country already pummeled by the housing crisis, like Las Vegas, Phoenix and Miami, will be hit hardest. But even some places that have rebounded or held up relatively well — including New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. — will suffer, too.
That's the conclusion of economists who have been reducing their estimates for home prices as the outlook for the economic recovery has darkened. The number of homes for sale or headed for foreclosure is so high that they think prices will be even lower by next July.

Yikes !!! Tax Break For Mortgage Interest May End !
July 17th, 2010 | posted by Grazi2GraziosiThe recent news is alarming! Congress is considering giving the ax to the tax break for mortgage interest.
Has anyone else here on the DG website been keeping up with this?
The popular tax break for mortgage interest, once considered untouchable, is falling under the scrutiny of policymakers and economic experts seeking ways to close huge deficits.
Please weigh in here with your thoughts on how this potentially affects us all in the REI business.
I'm a newbie ... but I pay attention to everything!
Thanks, in advance, for sharing your insights and opinions which I can learn from.

BAD MARKET OR BAD SITUATION?
June 24th, 2010 | posted by speednutBAD MARKET OR BAD SITUATION?
With housing prices at record lows, people can truly have a mortgage payment that is less than their rent payment. Young couples and families can actually afford to buy a home. If you're a real estate investor, there couldn't be a better market.
If someone is in a bad situation like being upside down on their home or if they are facing foreclosure. More than likely they will tell you how bad the market is.
So is it a bad market? I guess it depends on who you ask and what their situation is.

Americans purchased homes at a surprising clip in April, but don't let that fool you into thinking the housing market is back.
Although economists were expecting a month-over-month increase of 5.5%, the National Association of Realtors reported yesterday that sales of previously owned homes rose an unexpected 7.6%. That continued a yearlong rise in housing activity and marked the highest number of sales recorded since November of last year.

Canada's housing market didn't suffer like its struggling neighbors to the south, but there are still great deals to be had.
Canada's housing market has maintained its strength across the country compared to its struggling neighbors to the south. Skyrocketing prices and bidding wars have continued in cities like Toronto and Vancouver to the exasperation of homebuyers, even though some say a housing bubble is on the horizon.
So where are the deals? By comparing average home prices and median household incomes in cities across the nation, we zeroed in on the cities where you'll find the best bang for your buck. The following prices are all in Canadian dollars.
