Okay Steve!!! I just put on a post to you and noticed my PM button was gone!!
Just thinking, do they usually show up on your own, never paid any attention to that before.

... on my screen. I've observed that things like this happen when a DG Moderator is doing some changes. Things such as upgrading your merit badges or removing a post as the content was not to their liking, things like that. It may not always be the PM button. It also may not have anything to do with you. If as Dean said they are bite by bite changing the site maybe they were working on the PM system which would require it to be shut-down for a while.
