But realize you'll be paying him/her 3% to find that buyer. Use bandit signs, craigslist, etc. whenever possible, unless you're desparate to find a buyer.

Yes you can and I try to get my agent involved when ever I can. You should have the full agents commissions included in your sales price. I go ahead and use 6%, and others on this site can give you more experienced advise. But, be sure that any commissions you pay is paid to the agents broker, NEVER directly to the agent.
