I often read at this site how expensive advertising is, including outdoor advertising, even something as basic as bandit signs, and I agree that it is. It is no matter what business one is in. So, now we've identified the problem; what are we going to do to solve it?
I know, let's sit around, whine, criticize and do nothing. Maybe we should even get depressed and have medical problems while we're at it.
I'm just kidding, of course.
I've been thinking about this a lot, and I've determined what I'm going to do is simply go out and canvass some neighborhoods and put some advertisements on people's doors. If they're outside, I'll hand them my advertisement and a business card (which are cheap from VistaPrint.com especially if you design your own). To save on money, rather than buying expensive door hangers, ink or paying a printer, I've gotten big packages of blank postcards (no stripes/lines even). These are dirt cheap at Walmart or a dollar store. I've gotten some address labels and had them imprinted with a short, catchy sales message. I'll stick those to the cards and put them on people's front doors.
Of course, don't walk on people's grass and the like, and I'm not even going to stick the cards on people's painted or varnished doors, glass, etc. It will go on the doorknob or between the door frame and the door itself. Even Scotch tape can peel paint.
I'm seeking out regular buyers right now, as a realtor, so my stickers say, "Browse real estate, free: [my website address], Rick Allison, Realtor

Actually, the stickers say (centered):
Browse Free: Real Estate

[My phone]
By the way, if you want some FREE, colorful cards and bookmarks to attach your stickers to that have a religious saying on them (making them cute where people want to hang on to them) please send me a PM, and I'll tell you where to get some.
Now, for those of you that say, "I can't do that," and start making excuses, let me tell you that I have to do this with braces on each leg while walking with a cane from combat-related injuries. I'm not saying that for your sympathy or empathy, I'm just telling you that if I can do it, anyone can. Also, I'll probably have significant back and arthritis pain and some seizure activity in my brain while doing it. I'd do all of this in motorized wheel chair/scooter if I had to.
