Shawn's Freedom Journal - The Road Less Traveled

I am beginning this journal today, just as many other members of the DG family have, to document my journey in real estate investing, and more importantly to keep myself accountable. I have already taken some steps toward my real estate investing goals, but they have all been preparatory. While this activity is positive and constructive, I understand it is not the key to success with real estate investing or anything else for that matter. Adequate preparation must be applied through appropriate and continuous action. So, here I am at a fork in the road of my life. It is likely that this could be the most profound and defining moment I will ever encounter. Before me exists two paths. The path of the known and the path of the unknown. I choose the path of the unknown, the road less traveled, the way to action...and now it begins.

To Get Where You Are Going - You Must Start With Where You Are

In order for me to move forward I need to know where I am. I thought it would be a good idea to list the things I have done so far in my REI journey. As I mentioned in the introduction to my journal, all of the things I have accomplished so far have been preparatory. Here is the list.

I have read Dean's "Be a Real Estate Millionaire" cover to cover.

I began to read "Profit From Real Estate Right Now!" today.

I am about half way through organizing my neglected finances and discovering my true financial picture. (negative net worth at this point) Smiling

I am a "Set For Life member". This all-in-one platform that Dean and Greg Clement has put together is truly amazing. I have spent a considerable amount of time learning the capabilities within this system. I know that this tool will prove to be invaluable as my REI journey progresses.

I have set up my websites that are integrated with the SFL system.

I have set up an LLC for my REI business. It is a Nevada corporation, which offers significant benefits to for real estate investors who reside in California like me. The incorporation should be complete in about two weeks.

I have business cards printed and dedicated phone, fax, and email established exclusively for my REI business.

The next step...letting the world know I am in business. I am now beginning the process of setting up my team. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

Holiday Progress

Hello everyone,

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my wife. We kept it low-key this year. It was nice. Anyway, I just wanted to post a few lines regarding the progress I made during the holiday break. So, here it is.

I read "Profit From Real Estate Right Now!" cover to cover. I absolutely loved it. This book filled in a lot of the gaps regarding the specific process of getting started. I'd like to express my thanks to Dean and all of the DG members who contributed to the book. It really helped a lot.

I finished setting up my core website within the SFL system, so I have buyer and seller squeeze pages along with the core site completed.

I have a real estate attorney referral request from a corporate attorney I used to work with ready to be emailed tomorrow.

I have ghost ads for both buyers and sellers ready to be posted on Craigslist. Those are going out tomorrow.

I have a list of real estate agents that are going to get the blast fax that Matt Larson created and featured in his 25:1 system. That is going out tomorrow too.

I have a couple of community banks that I will be calling tomorrow as well.
