J. O. B. SECURITY, HAH!

I would love to get started in Real Estate Investing but my wife is very negative and skeptical about working for yourself. She thinks you should work for someelse because of medical insurance. I say blah, blah , blah, you can buy your own health insurance with the profits you make from this business. She wouldn`t even like it if I spent the twenty bucks to buy Dean`s books. Don`t get me wrong, I do love her but she is very negative about things. She went through her first marriage with a very negative husband and has carried that into our marriage. I would like to prove to her that not all of life is negative.

What is the chance of a person who knows very little about real estate investing, being able to learn from Dean by reading his books and taking a chance in going for it full steam. Do you have to be an expert in real estate to make this happen?

Great post..There is NO security in a J.O.B...Escape the rat race and take action.We are all surrounded by negativity.Just start out an hour here an hour there on the sly.It adds up to success.You dont want to stay stuck in the status quoe,it is not a happy place making someone else rich while they could care less if your even putting food on the table and caring for your family.Let alone providing them a great life,vacations etc..Best of luck...take action!!!

You should really have a heart to heart with her and tell her you will do it with or without her, but with her would be so much easier. Let her know that you do not need her negativity, you get that enough from other people around you. Tell her you need her support just as you would support anything she did.

A husband and wife should be each others cheerleaders. This world beats you down enough without having to get it at home too. Look there is a lot of time we don't like our spouses, shoot probably everyday, but we love 'em and that is what matters.

Have this talk with her and see what happens. Expain that unless nothing changes, nothing changes. You are doing this for a better life, there is no fault in that.

To answer your question, no you don't have to be an expert to make this work. You also don't need any experience. How do you think REI's became REI's, they learned, they were not born this way. So anyone can learn.

I recommend at least buy the books.($30) Then make an informed decision from there.

Have you ever heard knowledge is power, this is misquoted. Someone once told me Applied knowledge is power. It does you no good if you have all this information but don't take action.

Give yourself a chance. Buy the book, that's a start.

The auto industry as well as the aerospace industry is a good example of job security, not to mention the ripple effect into all the support businesses. Even with secure retirement including benefits that all of a sudden have diminished or disappeared. Nothing is for sure unless you are in control. Skeptical people should be directed to all the accomplishments of the DG family on this website. Too many people here doing it right for it to be wrong. Good luck and stay positive.

Has anyone been hearing about all the fuss and complaining about union workers? I have heard people complaining about how it is unfair that the unions need to be knocked down a peg or two because they have amazing benefits and pensions while the rest of the working force have to deal with a lot less.

I am a union member of one of the biggest unions in the USA. Yes our benefits and pension are in the top 5 best in the country, but when you weigh the risk of what we do compared to our paychecks we get we need to have some benefit for doing the job most couldn't even dream of doing themselves.

I have just learned today about all the proposed actions that are meant to take place and it had me scared for a bit. When I took this job I knew the pay was not great but the benefits for the long haul and my families well being were worth the effort. Now I felt a real shake in that comfort. All I could think about is thank God that I got involved in REI now. If I want security, real security then I need to find out what I need and then what I need to get it. The only solutions I have found to get exactly all of that are two things.
1) work until I am about 253 years of age with saving 73% of my checks into savings, tax free, and earning interest in a swiss bank account. Oh and I have just 30 years to do this.

or

2) REI. With the help that Dean, this site, and its members provide I can see that I will no longer have anymore unexpected shakes like that when it comes to my families financial security. When you can see the road ahead you can choose your course of action. You have time to react calmly, and contructively as opposed to going blind, hoping that the road is smooth and flat. When something pops up you swerve and skid, sliding all over until eventually you crash.

I have crashed too many times. I will no longer drive blind. It not just me driving in the car. My family is riding with me.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a husband who does not believe in any of this. He did at one time. 25 years ago my husband wanted to start buying real estate and I didn't. I had family members who had a hard time with rentals and they discouraged me. But now I want to get my first deal so that I can prove to him and my boys that this can be done and that they could be doing this.

So I have made a decision that since I have bought Dean's books and read them that I now need to take action. So I have been doing some research and looking at some properties on the internet and I will start looking at them.

So don't let your wife keep you from doing what you want. Go for it. If you do it than she will end up happy.

Prove it to yourself that you can do it. That is what I am going to do.

Real Estate gives me job security! I will always have a way to make money, never run out of product and supply and demand will go on forever!

If you are here on DG you have JOB security. But like any other job you have to work it. You have to want it! Is it possible to have JOB security in a Country that is facing financial ruin... Absolutely!

I have no boss, can't be fired, can't be laid off, make my own hours and best of all I do all of this while I spend time with my family. Now that's JOB security!

I too am a member of the I.B.E.W. down in austin,tx. I just found out however that our local is in fact going to drop our insurance. So unions seem to be taking a hit as well. Or maybe they are just like every other corporation and want to put more money in their pocket. I knows unions down south are not as strong as the ones up north. I saw the writing on the wall, so I knew it was a matter of time.

That is why I am so thankful that we have within ourselves to do something about our situation if we don't like it or agree with it.

I hear coworkers always saying how this country is going in the crapper. All I know is when I woke up this morning in my own home, turned on my lcd tv and watched sportcenter while making my kids breakfast, I didn't hear the sounds of bombs bursting or gunfire. If you ask me this is the greatest country in the world. Though it is not perfect, I would rather live no place else.

Someone once told me that if there is something going on in your life that you have no control over, don,t worry about it, you can't control the outcome. If there is something going on that you do have control of, don't worry about it because you can control the outcome.

So don't worry, be happy.

I completely agree with you. Mark Twain said if you make your vocation your vacation you'll never work another day in your life. The only security we have is the security we provide ourselves, not to rely on someone else. Thanks for the feddback.

Why not put security in yourself? Are you worth it? Do you believe you are? Then why not buy stock in yourself and go kick some serious behind and live! Live how we are all meant to. Not worrying about the small things. Finding solutions for ourselves, families, and strangers alike to help each other live happily. Live the way the Lord meant for it to be. With the ones we love!
