98 Percent of Basements Get Wet

Ninety-eight percent of basements get wet at some point. Some new home warranty statistics suggest that 38 percent of homes have water problems in basements within the first five years of their life. There is no shortage of statistics to suggest that wet basements are a common problem. My difficulty is that we are visiting the house at one point in time, and there is often no evidence of a problem. Decorating and finishes may cover the evidence. Concrete can dry up very nicely and not show any evidence of problems. When doing your walk through inspection, check for evidence of water intrusion on the walls and posts in basement.

wet basement

I definitely agree with this. When my wife and I purchased our house, the basement looked completely dry, and we even came over when it was raining once.
Within the next year, every time it rained there was sooooo much water in the basement. We still haven't got it completely fixed, but it is a little better now. Good info to know that 98 percent of basements over a lifetime to get water in them. Now I don't feel so alone. Smiling
