Moving on

Moving on

Sad to say that my partnership was not working out. I had to tell my partner and he didn't take it too well. Instead of replying he avoided my for days, and today I received not what I call and email, but a book blaming me for things not working out.

I really tried to leave on good terms, and wished him well, but he just threw it all back in my face. I will move on, and although he had much knowledge and experience, all of that could not help us to move along as REI was not a priority for him.

I felt sad having to say goodbye and tried not to, but you sometimes just know if you are to move ahead you must go back on your own. I have little experience and little knowledge, but I felt growth even through our partnership, I just wish we could have parted friends. Not sure this is something to share except to say you have to be in control of your own ship, but to know that no man is an island.

sorry to hear that

I am considering a partnership but then I look at it from that point of view like maybe one day my focus will change and maybe their focus will change. i think i would like a partner on certain deals but not my whole business. I mean its so defeating to have someone steal your energy like that. keep your head up and get out there. i wish I had someone I could share my dreams and enthusiasm with. I am sort of jealous of the happy couples who do it together its kind of a nice thought. but everything happens for a reason you were meant to be on a different path and you will be fine just keep going

Thank you everyone!

Yeah, There are some positives and negatives. As a newbie I think it gains me more positives, but that is also debatable.

I just was not into the blame game, and wanted to get things done. I spent a lot of money and time adjusting to how he wanted to work, but I learned along the way what works and what doesn't. For instance I opened a dba for us. Although it was not much, I assumed responsibility for the paperwork and payment. However, now I must go down and amend the paperwork as he is hiding and refuses to close the dba. I will pay and take my name off so he can't say I am still partnering with him. Sad! I expect people to at least be fair or mature enough to work things out.

He wanted me to change too many things even my software to match his, when mine is new and up to date. That was a no go and too many of these things told me not to go on with this arrangement. I put up all the earnest money, I signed all the contracts, I secured the address and paid for it, etc. I just saw it as the cost of business, but I wasn't willing to keep being taken advantage of. Why does someone also block their number when you are doing business together. He may have had a lot of knowledge which was obvious, but other things didn't add up. Learning experience.

I Feel you Tammy:

When I got started, I also went looking for partners who were local to me (fat chance here in the middle of nowhere :/) and wound up partnering with some fellow DGers that were close, (50 miles or so) but we all had one problem: we were all new. And that was a bad thing and none of them really worked out. The thing to remember tho is that as a single person, you need to do everything and that doesn't always work. But not all partnerships work either which is why you need to be choosy whom to partner with.
The key to a good partnership, as I've seen it, is that the partners have to compliment each other. One knows and does what the other doesn't know and can't do. They need to have the same values and are both working to make the company grow and be profitable. They are in it for the "we" and not the "me". I've had that kind of partner before in my other business so I know it exists, it's just a hard thing to find. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

The good news is that you do have all of us here to be a sounding board until you find that "special" partner. Smiling

Keep your chin up and your offers flowing Eye-wink

You learned something here!

The idea of partners is great, and it works for many people. However, keep in mind that in many situations the best thing to do is turn that person into a private lender if you are looking for funds to work with. This way all the expectations have been put into writing and both parties know what to expect from the transaction. If knowledge is what you seek then you need to navigate at their speed until you can coordinate your own new target point and branch off if you like. Always know where you want to be and know your "WHY"(as Dean says)!!! I think there is less problems this way.

Much Success,

Joshua

Thank you for your comments

Joshua. This person was however not a money partner in any sense. I think I was his money partner and little busy bee.
