Hello again Everyone,
I found a home that floored me the other day. It was built in 1773 by the commanding General of a local militia, it's on the "National Register of Historic Places", and even housed two guests by the name of George and Martha Washington. But it's in dire need of Restoration. Now I would love to restore it, but I don't have that kind of $ yet and I don't know how to find a grant.
A presenter at a DG seminar said "You don't qualify for Gov grants, the properties do." So armed with that info I set out to find a grant, knowing this property must be eligible for some serious Rehab help.
After doing a search online and skimming over the "fill this out for your free grant kit" adds I couldn't help but not trust any of the websites offering them. I don't want to deal with a middle man company selling me a "kit" to apply for grants.
I'm sure there are many people out there who feel the same way too. We want to go straight to the source, The U.S. Government. So how do we do it?
If only I could remember I put a post up on the forums.
I don't know how to get directly to the source but maybe someone else here does. In the mean time maybe you're local government agencies can steer you in the right direction. Best of luck with this and let us know turns out.

Below is some information I found in the net about how to acquire in a case like this. I just could not remember exactly how as my parents use to own a victorian home in Ms and also got special grants and such for the up keep and renovation as well. Maybe this info will be of some help and you can do more research and the like at ehow.com is where I got this information at.
Get a Historical Restoration Grant
Restoring an older home takes a lot of patience. Depending on the age of your home, you may qualify for a historic restoration grant, which will aid in the financial burden of a home restoration project. After researching the history and the age of your home, contact your local courthouse or homebuilder's association to direct you to the proper officials who will be able to give you the paperwork needed to get started on a grant. Each city, county and state has different rules and regulations concerning historical restoration grants. This article is only a general guideline of things to expect when preparing to apply for a restoration grant.
