Still looking ahead and taking bigger steps to achieve

My name is Aracely. I am a single mom with a 17 year old son who is soon to graduate high school. As his graduation day is quickly approaching, I am embarrassed to say that I have very little money saved to get him through college. I am also a middle school teacher, so with my supposed high income, my son will not be getting much financial assistance. Others have told me, let him get a loan to school, you have covered your responsibility for him to almost age 18 "adulthood". Although I agree and he does plan to work, I already have school loans I'm still paying. He will have his own stumbles and falls in life, want to always be there to help make his life easier when it is possible. After all, that’s why I am his parent, right? I don't want to see him on the same hamster wheel that I’ve been on and have felt like there is no getting off. As Dean has said about his goal for his children; to not have to worry about the how can they do what they want without having what they need to get there. I have wanted that too for my son, but started on the wrong paths to achieving my goals for him and myself. Since I have been on this website and continue listening to Dean's wisdom, along with being given a second chance from God at life after an accident that almost took my son's and my life. I am now gaining even more courage to move forward with a drive to succeed. Meanwhile, my son continues cheering me on as I stumble and continue getting back up to learn more and fill the gaps. I recently purchased the EDGE 2013 recordings and am grateful that Dean continues making it possible for everyone who wants a better life to have a means to fulfill it with support by sharing all he can. Daily, I pray for me and all others who want to strive and thank God for those who continue moving forward and are there to also help. I will definitely appreciate all your tips and advice you are continuously willing to share.

Greetings Arcey,

Your life is dynamic and constantly changing, because of that, your direction is much more important than your position.

Arcey, let your change in direction take you to unfamiliar places, where you explore the unknown, expanding your quest for seeking lots of knowledge, keen understanding, experiential learning and absolute truth. Then share these attributes with your son who will really appreciate you more, creating a world where you and he, grow and move forward together.

If you can really afford to support him through college, in the long run it will be great for both of you.

Allow him to enjoy and experience college as a full time student. Depending on his major, hopefully business management or marketing, he will be able to focus and be completely committed to his studies. He won't be side tracked working part-time while going to school.

It was difficult for us with our two daughters, but worth it to see them graduate with their degrees in the allocated time. They were both full time live-in students. What an experience it was for them.

They were attentive to their learning, focused and enjoyed the honors they both gained along the way. Today they are enjoying their lives.

"...Meanwhile, my son continues cheering me on as I stumble and continue getting back up to learn more and fill the gaps..."

It is really is admirable of him to cheer you on through your stumbles.

My suggestion, dive into the edge, learn all you can, put it to practice, most importantly include him, teach him what you learn, set a further example for him to follow into your footsteps.

Create your business with him as your partner, because when he finishes college he can take over and you can relax and then assist him where necessary. You can even bequeath the business to him.

Watch and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

God's blessings for you and your son.

Alphonza.
