I admit I watch news, and unfortunately I think it rubs off on me. I will definately do this challenge. I will have to watch out for slipping into this one by accident as the media has a foothold here in my home. So..... cold turkey huh?

Thanks for the challenge.

Week of 10/4/10 blog

blueyes15074's picture

I am somewhat of a news junkie because I am bent in that direction as part of my working life. I guess deep down inside I'l like to have a job like that of Larry King or Anderson Cooper on AC360 on CNN.

I do have an interest in real estate and want to find a way out of debt that I carry and be free of that. I am a bit short of cash these days being without a full time job or work for quite a bit of time.

I have been watching Dean's blogs and infomercials for several years and want to use his information to start a decent real estate career. The Set for Life program interests me. How can I get it under my short of cash circumstances?

Great challenge Dean! Ready for the 2nd part!

Shawn SD's picture

Thanks for the continued challenges Dean. I am an SFL member. When I received the SFL system I turned off my television, listed it on Craigslist, sold it, and disconnected my cable service all in the same day. I have to say it has been extremely liberating. You don't realize how much negativity you absorb when the television is on, even when you are not watching it. These insights into successful behavior outside of the realm of REI are priceless.

Shawn

P.S. I also switched my internet homepage from MSNBC to DG.com on that day. Smiling

news

Thank you Dean for reminding me also how much negative news there is, it doesnt matter where you live all you hear about is the bad stuff that happens to people and all of the bad people there are in our world. I never really listened to the news much for that reason but people at work are always talking about what they saw on tv so I just have to tune them out! Thank you Diane

News On Ice For One Week

I accept the challenge, since my news watching has already been to the minimum. But the news have no effect on me. With God, there is no recession, depression, bankruptcy, foreclosure and the works. I try on a daily basis to harbor positive thoughts and actions. It is not always easy, especially when negative speaking people come calling. Thanks Dean again for thinking about us. God Bless.

SFL Webinars are Better than the News!!!!

Thanks, Dean - I'm still digging into to my SFL Webinars because it's a challenge. Who needs the News? Not the DG Family. Thanks for reminding me not to watch that negative stuff. I'm going back to my Webinars now.

Sharon from Trenton, New Jersey

OK Dean, I accept the

OK Dean, I accept the challenge and I want you to know this is a tuff one for me because I'm a news junkie and even though I do realize the negativity of it all, it's like a magnet, always pulling me in, but this week it won't and who knows what the future holds after that. Great things I'm hoping.

Awesome challenge

Magarahan's picture

Thanks, Dean for giving us this challenge. I used to be a FOX/CNN news junkie. For years I watched the deterioration of our culture daily.
But about a year ago I heard you suggest that we take a break from the news. Since then I have been on a news diet. I laugh when people tell me about something that is big BAD news that I have no knowledge of. I tell them, "I don't watch the news or read the papers. It just makes me mad".

But lately, I've caught myself sneaking a peek and reading a story or two and getting all riled up.

Your challenge is a welcome nudge to get back on the straight path to success in all I am trying to do, a challenge to put the blinders on, a challenge to concentrate on the things that are important and to ignore the things that are not no matter how well they are publicized.

Thanks for giving me a reason to get back on a strick news diet. I've got things to do, places to go, and people to see. I don't have time for the garbage they sell as news.

Thanks, Dean, I needed that.

NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!!!

Hi Dean; Thanks again for taking time out to do these wonderful blogs, I truly look forward for them and get excited to find out what you have to share with us every time. OK, so No News! You got it! The truth is I do watch the late news almost every night before bed. I always felt like I need to be informed on whats going on in the world...especially in my own community. Just so I am aware and informed, if there is something I can do about the subject, I take action. Most of the time it is negative news, but it seems we are all affected with whatever is going on, in our own back yard or in our own planet. But, I am definitely going to stop the NEWS dead on it's tracks and see how I feel only because you asked us to do this challenge. So, as of this moment, I turned the news off. God Bless.

No News Challenge

shinton's picture

This is going to be a real challenge for me since my husband watches the news ALL the time. I will have to be intentional about leaving the room. Sounds like a great time for my business to boom as I spend that time looking for deals. I don't think we realize how much time just wastes away. Thanks for the challenge, Dean! You always come up with something great. I can't wait for part 2.

I'm Up To That Challenge

In the past I use to watch the news everyday. To see what's going on in our state and around the world. I'm not sure if it was a video blog or was it in one of your books you mention to not watch the news cause it's so negative. From that time I have very seldom watch it.But now I am up to that challenge I will weaned myself of the tube. So I can be more focas in real estate. Thankyou Dean..Can't wait to see what you've got for us in Part 2.. God Bless Aloha, Cecelia

there goes my weather news!

Valuni's picture

Ok Dean, I've already cut down on the TV so that I can study for the Academy, and learn the SFL; but I do watch the weather report every morning to know what to wear for the day-what am I going to do now??!! Oh well, here's to the challenge Eye-wink
Valerie

I TO TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE!

Great blog Dean, I don't watch the news. If you think that your having a bad day then turn on the news and a whole lot of people are having it worse than we are. So if you want to be "positive" then the news is not a good idea. Can not wait to see what part 2 of this is??? Keep us guessing!!!!!!!!

Thanks Dean,

Bertha

BIG Challenge For Us All!!!

SouthsideJohnny's picture

Dean,

How did you know what I was doing?

What a challenge! This will be a tough one, but I'll give it all I got. Not so much the news, but TV in general.

My brother-in-law lives with us and buys a paper daily, reading it front to back - back to front. He is always complaining about how he hates his life and seems to want to bring others down with him. What he really doesn't know is that this is MOTIVATION for my wife and I; how NOT to be!!! We are dead set on not letting his negativity rub off on us and it's been surprisingly easy.

By the way; as I am typing, MNF is on SOMEONES TV (Pats vs. Dolphins), but I'm not watching!!!!

IT WORKS!!!

gbpinvestments's picture

I made the commitment at the begining of this year to stop watching TV all together when I found out who was in control of the media(government) and for what reasons. AND it has helped free my time up so I can read books and do things that interest me, more often, AMAZING change. LOVE IT!! and Love you Dean! Thanks Brother! You help soooo many people Change for the better. May Love And Light Fill Everyday of Your Life!

I'll take your challenge, too.

I've heard that negative news can affect people.
It seems like the news is all around us. I'm willing to take your challenge, and find out for myself. Thank you Dean, for making things fun and educational.

Another Great Video Dean!

Great stuff Dean as always!

Thanks Dean!!

Rick888's picture

This is going to be a real challenge for me as I am a news junkie. My TV is on FOX news 90% of the time it's on - I even have my DVR set to record the news programs I'm not able to see live. SAD HUH? But I see what you mean about all the negative stories and how they can bring you down. I will delete my DVR selections and if I do watch TV, I'll try to keep it on the comedy channel. We could all use a laugh everyday. The rest of the time will be focused on my Real Estate business.
Thanks for the challenge and I look forward to a more positive week.

Rick

I'm happy to see a challenge that I've already overcome!

Nelson5337's picture

Politics and news have never been my thing, and I don't often watch tv unless it's a survival show or something =P But this is a really great topic, and I feel it's a good eye-opener to a lot of people (including myself) to realize how subtle negativity can be. I believe when we aren't wasting time watching something negative, we are given the opportunity to really think about what we're doing, and fill ourselves with positive thoughts and ideas. Anyway, I'm excited to know what part 2 entails; I'm sure it'll be interesting.

I love you DG Family!

Take care,

Nelson

Nelson5337's picture

I've been on the forum almost a month now, how often do we get challenges? Is it generally weekly or is this something new?

Day 1

Jaguar.Investments's picture

Not as easy as I thought. I will have to quit other forms of media as well in order to make good on this one. Online news just by habit, then commented to a political post on facebook. Although I was not in my car yesterday, I will have to keep the radio off too.

We Can't Afford To Take "NO NOTE"!!!

keepmylifesimple's picture

Hey Dean, DG Fam and Readers!!
Well, after reading ALL the comments posted so far, I will have to say that I am going to stick out like a sore thumb and say some things that may be shocking:
"I agree to a POINT."
I've heard it said:"Why Do I Want to Watch Someone ELSE Live THEIR Life on TV, when I Should Be LIVING MINE!" I TOTALLY agree with that!
What a WASTE of time to spend SOOO much time watching other people live THEIR lives on TV!
There are SO many reality shows!!
However, like ALL things in life--we have to be BALANCED.
When I think back when the TOTALLY UNEXPECTED 9/11/2001 took place, I think I just happened to be listening to the radio news station.
When I watched the TV and realized that, it WASN'T a fluke accident, but Terrorism, I IMMEDIATELY knew I was leaving to pick up my daughter from school.
Terrorism is something NEW and REAL here in the US now!
I respect and accept that everyone has their own
beliefs.
However, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, we follow closely to what the Bible says when Jesus said to:
"Keep on the Watch."
In Noah's Day, people were eating and drinking, and yes, even buying and selling REAL ESTATE! Those things in THEMSELVES are not wrong. However, the reason ONLY Noah and his family survived is because the Bible says:
"and they TOOK NO NOTE, of what Noah was telling them for 40 years was GOING to happen, and the flood came and swept them ALL away."
We CAN'T Afford "TO TAKE NO NOTE", Even for just ONE
WEEK!!
And then to stress just HOW IMPORTANT it would be to STAY AWAKE in OUR day, Jesus said, "so it will be when the Son of Man arrives."
People today are making the SAME mistake as in Noah's Day. They are not listening and taking serious the warnings personally being given to them.
We have to be BALANCED in our view of making a living and also of not getting negative news overload.
We should keep up with the BIG things like 9/11/2001 or hurricanes coming; criminals hiding in our personal neighborhood etc... to protect ourselves.
I agree that the day to day murders; crimes, tragedies etc... in areas that are not near our personal home or families or friends is TOO negative.
So, in conclusion, as you are comparing this to a diet, we can't stop eating altogether, but we CAN choose what UNNECESSARY negative information to cut out.
Just as 9/11 came suddenly, Jesus said that the END or destruction of this WHOLE wicked system:
(ALL False Religion/ALL man-made POLITICAL POWERS/and the ENTIRE COMMERCIAL SYSTEM) will come crashing down as a thief in the night and THAT is why we need to keep up daily with the IMPORTANT NEWS, warnings and information personally brought to us by others.
I TOTALLY agree though with cutting out negative talk from people who would keep us from achieving a way to support our families using ethical REI as a great tool.
I know I stand out in my comments and I thank you all for reading. I truly appreciate ALL your comments as well!
I have made an effort to cut back to only the news I NEED and want to hear and TV that is refreshing!
Very Sincerely,
Patty

News less challenge

keithmace's picture

That's a great idea, Dean. I'm already 2/3rds of the way there because I never watch the news nor read the news. I do, however, listen to it A LITTLE BIT in the car occasionally. I find it so funny that most everyone you say to that you are in/looking to buy/investing/however you word it - when you mention real estate they immediately say something negative about it. Mostly how the price is low or how it's a bad time to get in. I just smile and say that's WHY it's the time to buy! And then they don't know what to say. Smiling

Thanks Dean

I've already got this part down! Partly from your first blog about it, and also since moving to Wisc. I only get 5 channels on my TV anyway...so that solved that! I'm actually so focused on real estate and enjoying life that I dont even get here on the DG site too often anymore....which I hereby reprimand myself for and vow to make a time slot for regular interacting with all my DG fam again Smiling Always great to start the week out with your enthusiasm coming through the screen Dean - thanks as always!
