The first steps to take

I live in Hawaii and the prices are pritty high for houses and everything else for that matter but I know there is so much potential in this back yard.

I would like to know if the DG fam had any advice on where to start. I am new to the world of REI but I know that if I have things that need to get done and constantly pushing forward, I will not allow myself to fall backwards.
