Downspout Rule #1

Downspout Rule #1

Rain gutter downspouts discharging into the ground is the arrangements preferred by most inspectors. Downspouts should discharge at least six feet from the property, and the ground at the discharge point should slope slightly away from the building. Common problems include downspouts that discharge too close to the property, or discharge where the ground slope directs water back against the building wall.
