Freedom of Information Act and contacting owners

Hey Everyone,

Went to the post office today to ask about finding a forwarding address on possibly vacant properties. The worker gave me a number to call. I spoke with a supervisor and he said to check usps.com for filing a Freedom of Information Act request if I would like to find out whether a home had a mailing address. There were fees attached to filing a request, too, so this seems like a fruitless chase. I don't know if this is just in my area, because I've seen other people mention that they ask their post office whether a house has a forwarding address. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

Vincent
