Brick Lindels

Brick Lindels

The lintels for brick veneer walls are typically steel angles. The lintels for the wood frame wall inside are most often wood. There is usually no connection between the lintel supporting the brick veneer and the wood lintels supporting the wood framing inside.
Look around lintel for cracking, and sight along the undersides for sag. Watch for rust at exposed sections. Mortar joints may be missing mortar at the lintel. There are often weep holes above lintels, especially on wide openings. These help water escape. Where there are no weep holes, it is important that the lintel not be caulked to the brick over the opening. This will trap water in the brick veneer at the lintel leading to rust.
