exchange house

Hi;
I was just wondering if something like this is possible. We have a home that we love, is a suburb area and my husband commutes every week day to work. The problem is that he is tired of commuting. He wants to move to the city where he works. We live @ idaho and I know there is a lot of houses for sale, foreclosured and in short sale all over. We talked to a realtor and he said that he could sell our home but our home will have to be "competing" with all this other good deals. So, my question is, since we have very good credit and my husband has a very steady nice job and we just want to move to the city, is there a way that we can find a property that we can swap or exchange, perhaps with somebody that wants a smaller home (like ours)and can make payments in our home and we make payments on theirs? Is something like that possible? If yes, how do I do it? We are willing to pay for a bigger more expensive home but honestly, I don't think that selling our home will give us a good result...any help? Thank you very much.
