I was hired by AT&T before AT&T Wireless came into existence. I was with AT&T Wireless from the beginning and became one of the most active trainers on the Sales Development Team, having the second most platform hours (Training Hours) on the team. We were all virtual employees, meaning that we traveled 100% of the time and operated from our homes.
For our training material, travel arrangements, and regular meetings, we used our cell phones, laptops, and portable printers. We had physical gatherings every 3 months. Our headquarters was in West Palm Beach Florida to begin with, then shifted to Seattle, Washington when AT&T Wireless spun off from AT&T. We started out with 5 trainers and ended with 150 on our training team, before being outsourced to Accenture. When our team was outsourced after 7 years of providing all the training for the AT&T retail division, I was hired by Accenture as one of the 20 people to carry forward all the training for AT&T Wireless retail. I was on the team that demonstrated our training abilities in Atlanta when Bellsouth took over and merged AT&T Wireless with Cingular. Bellsouth later bought AT&T and took their name and became the New AT&T.
In the beginning we provided three weeks of training to all newly hired sales reps, store managers, regional sales managers, customer care reps, and telephone solicitors. Our training included store operations, company policies, sales techniques, computer systems and customer care management. At the end our training was streamlined to get the new employee up and running in one week. My last year, I function as a training delivery analyst for Accenture. We critiqued the training material for all new classes and adapted the training material to maximum effectiveness.
